well, I had been watching a few fields for some time now and finally decided to set up one of them, even though the geese would change fields every other day or so. We arrived well before light to setup our decoys and find some cover. With my experience of goose hunting, the geese dont usually start flying first thing in the morning. Well, I was wrong and as soon as it got light the geese started to fly. Infact, they didnt stop for 2 hours! As the limit of geese doubled this year, things were shaping up for a good shoot.
Not only was it an amazing hunt with my Dad and brother, my 10 month old German Wirehair Pointer had his first taste of goose hunting. I was not sure if he would be able to handle the size of the birds, but first bird down and out he went running like a dog on speed and he retreived the large goose with no problems. The rest of the hunt he would watch for the geese in the air and then start whinning when he saw them. He retrieved birds all morning for us and the size of the geese didnt seem to faze him.
There were 3 of us but my brother's gun was jamming most of the morning. We ended the day with 22 geese, as we missed a few that we shouldnt have.
