Bird lice I'm afraid!!! Just part of the overall experience! Usually not too bad on the northern birds!---Cheers----Field marshal.

I always like trying to flick them off birds. They weave in and out of the feathers. Like tiny insects. Look hard enough they're on a lot of the birds you shoot.

x2....just flick them off, they don't normally create a problem like head lice.

You have me with the corn fed part, I only know the ducks from the Cowichan flats, fish fed. Just kidding anyways.

I had a couple of ducks handed me a week or so back, it was the first time I'd seen the little buggers too. Was no short supply of them either.

Ya gotta be careful with them.

If you get infested, they're a BIATCH to rid of.
Good news though,,,, they won't kill ya.

Just climb up your ear canals, roost in your navel, explore your eye folds, shit in your hair and tickle your nose (waaaay the hell up there), all when youz is asleep.
You'll need regular grooming like a chimpanzee.

once your birds are dead, and cooling they leave... I age all my birds in my extremely high tech, temperature controlled aging chamber....my bbq! They leave quick.....

Now fleas from fox trapping.....that's always a good story!

Those little dumb bugs never die... I swear its impossible to kill them. Usually only found on October locals?? Like on those tanned mallards and rock solid honkers. Once the rains/winds come and the northern lards and lessers push in, I dont usually see many bugs on those guys.
