Went out with my buddy yesterday up by Prospect Creek. Hiked into a small block and came across some tracks, I followed them to just about the timber when I heard a deer bolt. At the same time I heard him I thought I could smell a musky smell. I backed out and hiked around the outer edge of the block, it took about 30 mins and with the snow being alittle crunchy I thought for sure I had spooked the deer, I entered the timber a slowed down to a crawl. After about 30 yds I stopped and just had a good look, after a minute I could make out the ass of a doe and then saw my buck. After 2 shots he was down and I was shaking pretty good:). Took nearly 3 hours to get him out of the woods and back to the truck. Its my best deer yet for sure. Heres the clincher, I have the pics on my phone(clear pics) but cant send them to my email. Can I text them to someone to post?? Iwont post his width yet.

Thanks Rob.

we measured 27 3/4 for width. No side shots as hes hanging in my buddys shed, we are cutting him up tomorrow. And no idea what a rough score would be at all.

Very nice buck Rob. Nice and dark and wide. Check out his teeth when you get back to him, I'd be interested on his age.

After deductions, I guess 166 typ, net, gross 170 - 166 = 4 inches off --= 166 typ net mule buck
Reason for lowered score:
1. Short tine length
2. Back tines are weak ( fail to match the overall tine length of the other tines )
3. Rack looks 25 inches wide
4. medium mass
5. some other minor defish e inn sees
6. I'm a bit jeleous lol
Nice buck really, wow way to go and good shhootin

they usually freeze tooth and use a slicer to shave thin pieces ,but your way should work.let us know how that worked out!

You can also age them with some accuracy via tooth wear patterns. Nice buck in any case!!

Yeah hes got one, The tooth aged him at 4(according to the guy who did it). Not sure if that is accurate though

Judging from his face, he doesn't look like a old buck so I'd say the tooth age is in the ballpark.

I reckon his age is 2 - 3 days dead (based on other threads this is either the perfect time to butcher, way too late to butcher or way too early to butcher). This is based on reading the www and deducing timelines from there.

Do I win anything????

Muley bucks live to be 9 to 11. They normally start to regress in their last couple years. I'd like to have seen that buck at age 7, 8 or 9. ;)
