Rut should be on by now. Usually starts mid-late October. Once you see the does without their fawns the rut is right around the corner. We were up in Cache Creek from the 15th to the 21st and at the start of the hunt all the does had fawns with them. Buddy took a 2 point on day 2 that hadn't started rutting. Towards the end of the hunt we started to see more single does and the buck I took on the last day had a nice thick neck and soaked scent glands. So should be full swing up there.

i saw a group of two does, a group of three, and another group of two yesterday and still not a buck anywhere near them.
also, groups of three, two, two, and three again today and no bucks anywhere.

i've found buck sign, but it's still in cover and solitary.

The spike buck rut might be starting now. And definite pre rut. But the real rut will be a few weeks later.

PS: Kill some Whitetails.

My pops seen a little guy on the weekend in 5-12. Someone had already shot him and he was walking around all bunged up. So he dropped him and tagged him out. According to the ranchers there's still a couple more kickin around out there.

So guys with that infamous 5-12 draw, take a whitetail tag.

Long weekend in November usually will see it going, from my experiences close by.

i have hunted 191 rd off the windy mount rd and have seen quite a few whitetails , only does . bucks will be there ,i just never saw any though . funny thing is i never saw whitetails any higher than the 191 rd . lol almost like an imaginery line they are not allowed to cross. also seen my fair share of whitey's along the horse lake road , always close to the fawn lake exit . if i was hunting mule deer up there for the rut id go helena lake for sure . good luck

the peak of the rut is when they shut the season down for 11 days.

108 mile house back in Oct 14th weekend, the spike and 2pnt we shot both were stinking and neck was starting to swell. Spike was with 3 does and the 2pnt was with one doe. So the pre-rut should be starting for the local deer by now.

I think it is getting revved up now. Bucks will have thick necks and be stinky - if the buck I took on Oct 31 a couple years ago is any indicator and he was also hanging around in an area we saw a bunch of does. They will really be on the chase in a week or so.

buck I shot the other day was starting to thicken up. but it's still a little early for any real rut action up that way IMO.
