Hey all,

Going up to our cabin in the 5-2, 5-15 area for the weekend coming up, to look for some mulie 4 pts. This is our first year in the area, and we have put in lots of time scouting, so we know roughly where we will go. Pretty new to hunting, and self taught, so just looking for some input. We always hear that that big deer are up high, and you have to wait for the snow to push them down. How much snow are we talking about? If our usual spots higher up have 6+ inches of snow, is it best to focus on the lower areas with less snow? Just trying to figure out how much snow it takes to actually get the deer moving down.

The Rut should be on, so the plan is to pull out the the calls and put theory into practice and see what happens!

Cheers,

Starting to notice bucks with several does hanging around now.

When people talk about snow... they mean a couple feet up high. It's easier for the deer that summer up high to move around and find food down lower with less snow.

Seen some decent deer down low already, still need more snow though to really get them moving in.

snow touching their belly gets them heading for lower ground pretty quick. any less than that and they don't get affected that much.

Big deer are where the girls are at when the rut is on...period. Snow will push them to lower elevations earlier ( ie if the rut is not on )...but once its ruttin time they are going to wherever the girls are...pretty hard to get it on with a snowman:mrgreen:
