Tom . How long are you staying ? It starts to get good around Nov.5 The first day of doe season and peaks around Remembrance Day from my experience .

I have not hunted there yet this year . I will not get over there until the bow season .

My length of stay is flexible. I'll stay as long as it takes to get an animal. I only want one. Tom

I'm not heading up there until end of the month just after doe season is over. Haven't been there in a decade. I read some five year old posts on here stating to stick close to the shoreline. Does that hold true still? Any other help? Hoping to camp at bob's lake, not sure how busy it will be although it will be post doe season......

Just back tonight.
I got two little antlerless.
Most guys I spoke with had at least one by yesterday.

I didnt see a single grouse.
The last time I was at Texada was about 15 years ago, there were lots of raccoons. I didnt see a single one this time.

I was about half way down the length, near where the hydro power lines cross.
I was walking for both of them. I'm trying to get away from road hunting.
I guess I fell into that habit as my friends are hardcore roadhunters.
I really enjoyed the thrill of a spot and stalk.

Really small! Once they are gutted, I grabbed both front legs in one hand and both hind legs in the other hand and just pitched it into my truck box.

Last time i was there i took a decent spike buck and a massive ( well texada massive ) doe. This year i'm not getting there until buck only.....i would be ......displeased to not bring anything back. It's my brother's first time out, that's why i thought we'd go there, because i thought we would have a good shot at bringing something back.....now i'm not so sure...... Was planning on doing some of both (road/hike) depending on what we see......where did you stay? Did you even see any bucks?

Went there on Nov. 1, Thursday arriving early afternoon. That evening I saw 5 or 6 does and fawns but no bucks. All were jumpy.

Friday morning I walked up to 2 really calm does and watched them for a good 20 sec. at 10 yards before they disappeared into the salal. Saw a good buck as well but he gave me no chance. Took off soon as he realised I was there.

Sat. morning my friend took a nice 2 x 3 at daybreak. Neck was swollen.

I took a decent spike in the afternoon. Toughest deer I ever shot. 139 gr. of bullet (recovered with 105 gr. retained) destroyed the lungs and yet he walked a good 80 yards with his head hanging low. We finally were able to find him in the thickest salal and finished him off.

Sunday I took three new hunters out to show them the island. Saw a monster buck at dusk and none of the new hunters were prepared and they missed the opportunity in spite of the fact the buck hanged around for 20 sec. or more before he vanished into the bush. He was following a doe and probably wouldn't leave her.

All in all a good trip. Enjoyed visiting old friends again. Tom

A few photos from my trip.
My campsite, first deer in the pickup, and both deer hanging up with guns in the foreground. The first was taken with an SKS, the second was taken with a Martini action Greener Police shotgun, with SG buckshot.

Anyone know if there is fire rings at the bob's lake campground? How about outhouses?
Thanks
