I have a 30-06 my dad used. It is a Remington and a nice compact rifle. I would like to get a scope. Farm fields I hunt can offer fairly close up (within 100 yds) or greater from 200-300 yds. Just wondering what scope would be suitable. I am not looking for the latest, greatest but something proven for this rifle... used is fine if you happen to be selling one. I passed up a shot this morning on a very nice buck. A scope would have made the shot certain of a clean kill.

thanks...

I bought a Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 for my 308win. I really like it. I used to own a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40 and sent it to bushnell for warranty work. Six weeks later they sent me a brand new one. I hear Leupold warranties are quite good as well. I paid $240 for the Bushnell Elite, and its has their rainguard coating. Not a bad scope for the price.

Vortex Diamondback. No questions asked lifetime warranty. For the price, there's nothing better imho.

I agree the guywitha270. Vortex is the way to go. Warranty is unbelievable and quality is outstanding.

I have the Vortex on my 30.06. Love the scope and clarity, have yet to have any issues. My brother has the Bushnell elite on his 270 and he loves it as well. Are you specifically looking into a used unit? Go into a sporting goods store and they should have a wooden stock that you can pop the scope on and take a peak. Some guys prefer different crosshair setups

I know of 3 different guys (including myself) who have had Bushnell elite scopes that fogged up on the inside for no apparent reason (no impact). Mine was only 6 months old and had only been used for half a season and then fogged up while sighting in before going away on an elk hunt. Island Outfitters took it back no questions asked and gave me full credit towards a Leupold. For the extra $100 I would stick to Leupold, or try the Vortex.

The only thing that I would pick over a Vortex Diamondback, would be the Vortex Viper, great clarity for the price!

I have had a Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 on my Remington BDL 30-06 for 15 years and hunted in all kinds of weather conditions without any problems. For the money it is hard to beat.

I have Bushnell Elite scopes on my rifles and I've hunted in sun, rain, and snow for years with them, no issues.
Great bang for the buck, bright, clear, and the rainguard coating keeps the scope useable even when the glass is wet.
3-9X40 will do the job just fine!
Leupold also makes fine scopes, they're pricey, but for folks hiking and climbing up mountains to go after
mountain sheep and goats and banging their scopes on the rocks a few times a day...they hold up to abuse.
If you're not planning on banging your scope on rocks several times on each hunt, buy a Bushnell Elite. :-)

I have a Bushnell Elite 4200 on my Husky '06. Very good for the money.
It came with a fixed four power Leupold, but i moved that to another gun. Tough scopes, those Loopys.

Have heard great things about Vortex quality for price and warranty as well, althouugh I don't own one (yet) :D

IMO the quality of scope only matters in poor light and poor weather conditions. If you're not hunting in that hour around sun-up/sun-down or in the pouring rain then a basic Bushnell will probably do fine.

If you have the $$$ I personally find that the Zeiss conquest at around $500 is the best bang for the buck out there.

I've been looking at a Meopta 3-9x42 in the Meopro series for $399 pretty tough to beat. Lifetime warranty and the clarity is on par with the Zeiss Conquest. Looking at one of these for my 375 H&H once it shows up haven't found anything close to it in that ballpark.

I've got the Meopta HD binos and the clarity and low light performance is excellent...$800 on Ebay.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of their rifle scopes...
