About 3 weeks ago I was driving back to my camp after a hard elk hunt up in the mountains I came around a corner in my truck and saw two very nice bucks standing on the road the time was about 12.30 pm.
I wanted the bigger of the two WT bucks that where standing on the road I jumped out of my truck to load up my 7mm mag just as I did this the two bucks pegged it up into the older slash I did not take a shot at the bigger one the intent to wound the deer was to hi of a risk.
I ran up the older slash where to the two deer had vanished over the hill at around 200 yards I got up to the crest of the hill panting and a little out of breath I was looking everywhere when all of a sudden I saw the deer he was the only one standing just inside the second growth timber line..
This deer looked like the deer that was the bigger of the two deer the deer was facing me out at about 100 yards a person has not got much time when it comes to judging the deer these mossy backs don't get to be big by being stupid..
I took my safety of come down onto the deer and fired he flipped over back wards when my Nosler Partition 160G 7mm bullet hit him this buck got back up and turned and was in the thick undercover before I could get another shot at him..
I gave the deer 40 min or so the bed if he was not hit hard giving the deer some time the deer might not get back up after bedding for a period of time I then went over to where I had hit the deer there was no blood not even a drop ???? maybe a miss ????.
I looked for about one hour no deer no blood WTF ??? I am getting mad at myself thinking that I had missed this deer ,,I went back to my truck to head back to camp a long drive it seamed to get back there to get help on finding this buck.
I got back to camp I told my two friend on what had happened we then got into the truck and headed back to the area where I had shot at this buck ,I said you two mark the path with a small piece of marking tape you two stay apart at about 30 feet I will head straight down from here.
I don't know why this happened to me but my thoughts are that someone up above looking down on me guided me right to this deer I walked no more then 70 yards and there this back lay deed on the ground I was very happy to find this deer ,,,,BUT it was not the bigger of the two deer I was very upset with myself ,,,NOT THE RIGHT DEER..
We dragged this buck of mine down to the road and I took a few pictures the deer field dressed out at 203 pounds here is the smaller buck out of the two the shot I took hit him dead center in the middle of the chest..
The left gard has two splits at the base on the gard making this deer a 6x4 and yes I will be getting a head mount on this deer..
