Once i figured out my new phone i will post pics with the first post.

Ok so.. i had been watching this area since before season had even begun, spotted many many bucks
Including this guy and two of his much larger counterparts. And i mean much larger the largest being
From my experiance atleast 24-28 inch spread minimum . And a nice typical 4x4 tall wide tall and very thick.
Tried for him during bow season with a 15 yard encounter.resulting in him bounding straight up the shale slide. :(

Never to see him again. Being a heavily road hunted area after rifle season opened they disapeared !
This stuff is steep in some spots ive seen only.a couple guys in.there all season on foot.

Either way no sightings of any of the.bucks all season . Then the snow flies . And get 8 inches of.snow up top.
Figuring the snow may start some pre rut.activity and push them down or get em moving.
I decide i should go.take a look and see whats happenin up there.
Was a good 3 weeks since i had been up there, was concentrating on elk.

Drive up and park . Load my grunt tube antlers knife and a snack in my pack and off i went straight.up the.hill.
Almost at the top i run into some.decent buck tracks . Which.were fresh . It was snowing so thats how i knew.
They were heading west and i had an east.wind perfect!
Planning on doing some rattling at first.. so i decide to slowly follow up on these tracks after about 10 minutes
And maybe 150 yards i stop to glass a lower hillside . Almost instantly i spot i vauge grey spot thru the fog and snowfa
And i see antler .
Estimate a distance of 100 yards slight down hill shot. Now buck fever is setting in.
This being the biggest buck that has givin me.enough time to ring off a.shot.
Im shaking safety off line the crosshairs up on his neck... Hes facing away only doable shit.
I breath try and relax and pull the trigger . To my amazement he bounces off.

Going downhill i figure i hit him as they usually go.downhill when injured .
I get down to.were he was and there was hair everywere and i mean everywere.
No blood nothin. Did i clip him? God i hope i didnt injure him and he goes.anddies
A mile away .

Follow his tracks for 70 yards hes runnin. Dew claws diggin . Still no blood .
Wtf!!! Now the snow stops and he walks into the pi needles now i lost his track.
So in a continually widening circle i search franticly for his track nothing!

No im so low its raining. There is a ravine so i figure maybe.he went down.
Hike all the way down scanning for.tracks sign blood anything! Up and down up and down
An hour and a half later im back at the very bottom!!

Now very discouraged i heAd back up to were i.shot him.
Starting all over again looking for blood and once again following.the tracks to
Were they diminish . Looking all around scratching my head i look up and there
Is a bare patch of dirt that looks.disturbed sure as shit he turned and went back up!
Into some small poplers so thick i would make to much.noise so i went down and around
There is a bald face just on the other side of this patch..

I finnally get around to were i can see into this open face . Its 40 degree angle so i gotta

290 yards uphill shot let one fly. Takes two steps.forward and as i am about to put

I look around his neck and head for a hit . nd right below the left ear there is a
4 inch gash .. wide open no bleeding. Glad i got him before he got away and perhaps
Suffered or got.eaten alive. Im oretty sure he woulda lived tho as he was acting as nothing wS wrong?!
