My son and son inlaw just shot three wolves , just before the end of the hunting hour was up.
I guess that will help save a few deer, elk and moose this winter up here in the elk valley.
The 270's are a little hard on the hides, oh well a dead wolf is a dead wolf!:-D
Picture is in the gallery.

THREE!!!!

How in the hell did they do that?
I'm envious....

Started out at 50 yards and the last was at over 200 yards.
between the two boys, it was 11 shoots fired. Moving targets are hard to hit when you are excited at the prospect of shooting a wolf!!
They are this years cubs, but what the heck, it saves a few animals from the wolve packs diet!!

Were headed back in the am to see if the rest of the pack is still there. Hopefully we can get one more. 270wsm isn't exactly easy on the hides, might have to borrow dads( gunpower ) 204.

My son and son inlaw are planning to have them mounted.
How much of a mount for two of them, I'm not sure as the 270 does a number on the hides!!

Not knowing the extent of the damages, Wolves can be done up to hide things pretty well because of their fur, including hair transplants (patch sewn in...).
Lottsa choices out there but I'm particular fond of shoulder mounts and rugs for wolves.

Little'ish fellar.

I'm going to get at least one skull done. I'll probably just get the hides tanned

That's pretty kewl too.
Tan-jobs are great for hands-on education with youngsters and adults alike.

I don't much care for people petting up my mounts. Having a couple simple pelts handy for people to handle, seems to really get them involved in conversation about Hunting and Conservation. And the sculls are great for this too.

Excellent ice-breakers and I haven't had one person refuse to handle one, or declare that they are 'grossed out' by them!
They create opportunity to inform and enhance another's perspective.

what king of money are yu talking just only tanning? more than 600 per hide? thanx f-g:confused:

one-shot-wonder

I had one tanned a couple years back for approx. $250-300 I think.

j270wsm
10-23-2012, 09:19 PM
Quoted $650 to get both hides tanned, that includes having the rest of the lower legs and heads caped out. I'll see what the one hide looks like when I get it back. If dan can fix the softball sized exit hole then I might make a rug out of the bigger wolf

That's not a bad idea, and all the more reason why we should use restricted access to certain areas of the site.
I pulled my copy off this thread already.
