Hey guys

Just wondering what your thoughts are on a scope for a .243. I have never used this caliber and am looking to buy one. I appreciate your guys experience. Thanks in advance.

If it were me, I'd probably put a 3-9x40 or a 3-10x44 on it

If your going to use it as a deer/bear rifle, then 3-9x40 is plenty.

If you want it for a strictly varmint rifle, than something with a higher magnification might suit you better.

Depends a lot on the usage the gun will see. If it's a long range varmint rifle, something in the 6.5-20x50 range isn't out of place. If its a deer hunting carbine you may be better suited with a 2-7x33 or 2.5-8x36 size scope

I had a 3-9x40 VxII w/ LR Duplex on my Rem 700 LSS 243 and used it mainly for coyote hunting, had no problem making shots out to 330 yards. Tough to beat a 3-9x40 for all'round hunting

I've a 3.5-10 leupold vx3 on mine. I will probably buy a 4-12 or something higher for it when I have more money, I'll be sticking to leupold.

I have a VX3 2.5-8x36 on mine, it's a BLR. Haven't actually hunted with it because I hunt with a Benelli R1, but it a nice combo to shoot.

we went 4-12 on my wives .243. great all around power 20-300 yards no prob. we mostly hunt bt deer in the pemberton woods with it. great for those 20-50 yard head shots in the timber and if you need to reach out 300 yards its got you covered. great all around combo for deer. shot most of our deer the last few years. get a good scope for it. it might turn into the gun that u use the most.

I've got a 3-9x40 Bushnell Elite 3200 on mine. Works great for my purposes.

3x9's are the bread and butter of the rifle scope industry for a reason. That's assuming it's a big game rifle. Some use the 243 as a LR varmint rifle. In that specialized scenario you might want to up the power.

Another thumbs up for a 3 x 9 - buy the best quality scope you can.
I have taken deer with my 243 out to about 350 yards.
