So headed to one of my favorite places for a week of hunting and relaxing. I have a neat little tucked away spot I check everytime I am in the area. Bluffy, private, and now about a 4 km hike in due to blow downs. Always thought it should hold deer but have never seen one there in all the times I have walked in.
So I decided to not break tradition, and hiked in yet again. Was happy that there was no way to get to it now except by walking in. Must have been over 20 trees down across the old road. At the end of the old road you have to hike up and over onto some huge boulder bluffs and you have to be quiet and stay low. So keeping that in mind, up and onto the bluffs I go. Staying low and quiet I scan the whole slash and what do I see - nothing yet again. This is a very small slash so binos are useless.

I decided to park on the rocks for a while, enjoy the sunshine and the view. It is a very pretty spot. Glance down to the bottom of the slash and what do I see, a buck doing the sneaky Pete out the bottom and about to head over the bottom bluff and disappear. Didn't bother taking a second look just up and boom.

Needless to say I was happy, and even happier when I got over and had a good look. He was huge in the body and I was stoked. Well, called for help and hiked out to meet Jo. Lord love a chain saw and tow ropes. About 1 hr and we were within 600 yds but not going to get any closer. We could hardly roll him around let alone drag out so we cut him in half. It was the only way. Still took 5 hrs for us 2 old gals to get him into the truck. 178 lb hanging at the butcher. Very happy. 94 yd down hill shot. Punched thru 2 ribs for a thru and thru. Took out the top of his heart.

Pics in a sec when I figure out how off my phone

Always thought it should hold deer but have never seen one there in all the times I have walked in. Those special spots just feel right sometimes, good on you for staying true. Nice catch
