Definitely seeing sign of Region 8 wolves - although I haven't seen a live one yet. I think it's high time we all get together and share info re: wolf tactics, sightings, etc and make a HBC "team effort" to knock a few of these beasts down. I know I'll be making every effort to do my part once the ungulate season ends.

Here's mine from Region 6:

http://i787.photobucket.com/albums/yy154/coach108/Wolf.jpg

Saw one the year before and took a lot of shit from my hunting partners for not pulling the trigger. This one was snacking on a moose head and hide we'd discarded of the day before. Shootthesheep spotted it. I put the cross hairs on it and he asked what it was. I said "wolf". He said, "shoot!" It was over in an instant. I shot at another two years later - a BIG black one. I thought I'd missed, and the pack ran off. Shortly after they all started howling. Their reaction says I may have connected - but never did find blood or the wolf. Checked back for several days. No ravens.. Still puzzled..

and so on and so on etc.

i'd be doing locator calling as i'm leaveing the bush at last light then going back into the same valley or drainage the next morning. they do alot of thier calling just after dark.

hahahhahaha Brillant! There is defintely a few that have hit the ground in 8 so far, just not nearly enough. Needless to say, come December-March, our group will be very busy again hunting coyotes/wolves. I just hope to see more people out hunting predators this year than just our group. Hopefully masses of people will join the quest to the winter grounds to put some predators on the ground!

Saw one on Echo Lake Ranch last year, no season so I let him walk. Also, lots of sign up H-10 off Heckman too, haven't been out there yet this year to check things out, waiting for the temperature to drop.

Had reports of one close to one of my tcams this weekend, haven't checked photos but hoping, for the sake of the area, it was a mistken identity for coyotes. If not ill have some fun dispersing that pack.

This is a great thread so we can all collude to locate and exterminate... I had 2 on a trail camera up by bald range in 8-11 earlier this year, there doesn't seem to be too much sign around there yet compared to other areas but it will only be a matter of time. Also had some on camera up little white this year too, its very apparent by the amount of sign that there is quite a few around that area- Myra/ McCullough.

I saw one very briefly in 8-11 a couple years ago. Shootthesheep has seen them in 3-12 a few times including last week. Unfortunately, the bastads are always moving too quickly for a shot.

I've poked holes in a lot more than I've retrieved, they are tough. Had them howl at gunshots when guiding moose hunters years ago.
Shot one from the kitchen window 3 weeks ago, knocked it sideways, run off, the rest of the pack bawled around here for two days after so I guess maybe it was a somebody in the pack.
Still out quite a few cattle. Have 10 cows without calves that went out with one in what we've gathered. Doctoring 4 calves for wolf bites.

I've seen lots of sign in 3-12 and more specifically around Rock Lake over the years. Also found a fair bit of sign on the east side of the big lake this year. Only a matter of time before one of our cameras picks them up. One of the guys we hunt with saw 2 in there together a number of years back.

Does this finally mean your 'Rusty Trigger' might get a workout here shortly.......!? Oh I hope you smoke every single one of them. Last year the uncle had an "issue" with a wolf pack so he did some homework and built a blind where he figured they would cross. Long story short, the crazy bugger spent litteraly every day for more than a month in it and was able to get 6 out of the 7 wolves. I think the last one left the province on an education scholarship, lol. Just some idea's for ya

Where abouts is your ranch? Be more than happy to help prune down that wolf issue you have. Drop me a PM if you like. Targt practise and getting used to sitting still isn't a bad idea either.

Sat in a blind watching over a natural lick last Thursday night in 7.32. I was solo, my partner and I were to meet after dark 20 minute hike to him. Just as dark hit I could here 2 packs of wolves howling aways away.
I climbed down from the blind and started hiking out the trail in the dark, came to the road and spooked a cow calf crashing thru the bush. Continued hiking until I heard the loudest werewolf style howl very close to me. Almost shit myself. Gun locked and loaded. Head lamp on full, knife unbuckled. Nothin happened, but geeze.
Thought I was gonna get payback for the wolf I killed in may.
We hunt over a half dozen different licks in the area. Wolf sign at all licks. No wolves seen, but definately found and heard thi trip.

I came across one about 5 weeks ago while quadding with my son in region 8-08, he or she ran across the road in front of us at about 6pm. Elevation wise it would be about the same as telemark cross country ski area in West Kelowna. Since then we have been on some scouting drives for new areas and the tracks are EVERYWHERE in Reg 8-08/8-11. After a good rain a few weeks ago you could watch the moose tracks running down some fsr's and spurs and the dogs were right on them and it was clear as day with the stops, skids and turns the moose were making the Wolves were taking them down...... Anyone want to go scouting in the area and get prepped for when the dogs open back up to spread some lead in the hills let me know

Doug was watching one take down a two point buck on his ranch. They take calves. I can see them eating a few Colts. I tried to shoot a couple of wolves in that area. It is hard to hit something that is going 100 mph. Found a spot where the wolves had torn apart a whitetail doe. Not much left.
