Last Thursday evening a short strategy planning to hunt for the next morning with hunting buddy Mike ended that were going to have to get off the beaten path with the Thanksgiving weekend approaching. Clock alarm set, which never goes off as were always up before it goes off is buzzing away as we leave the house in the dark morning hours.
Drive to the area and park to wait until the sun starts to light up the crisp morning hills. Walking the skidder trail right thru the slash glassing the slash foot by foot moving ever so slowly, ridge after ridge slowly moving deeper into the cut block.
With Mikes height he busts a buck feeding on the edge of the jackpines which I can't see until standing on a stump. The wind is just perfect, the skidder road below the surrounding edges of the cut block, airplanes drowning out any noise as the buck is stocked crawling until the 200 yard mark where it's feeding and noticed our movement, us frozen in movement and moments later it's feeding aggressively nervous of something as it's feeding and heading to the jackpines when he's taken down on the edge of them.
170lbs on the hook at Stu's in Savona by noon.
Glad to have Mike in company pulling the buck out!

Ha! I'm surprised you didn't call in a moose with all the grunting and wheezing that must have been going on during the drag out. I have the 15th off. Leave the keys to the rhyno please.
