Don't you know that head and neck shots are considered unethical by some? Go for the heart/lung shot next time.

neck shots are unethical unless your using a 168 grain winchester supreme sliver tipped.

Your under gunned. I took a shot at 1 today with the 325wsm. Barely did the job, might need to get a .375. If you insist on using a 30/06 for grouse make sure you load up some tsx's to be sure to get the penetration needed.

Must be inferior ammo... I poked at one with the 30-06 a few years ago and only found feathers lol

LOL this thread is awesome! Had a great laugh after reading all the posts not to mention it made me remember my grouse two weeks ago that I shot with my 12 guage. I was to close and managed to blow off his head, wings, legs and lower guts. There wasn't much left but I checked anyways only to find the breast still in perfect condition lol.

OMG I cut 4 grouse tags just last week. Old man wouldn't let me shoot a blue grouse w/ my 30-06.. still hurt over it, thing was the size of a small turkey!

What a coincidence, I shot one a couple years ago pushing himself along in a little wheelchair. Must have been the one you were shooting at.

I'm thinking you need to use "enough gun" when going after large BC grouse...I'm looking at a .416 Rigby if
they make TTSX ammo for it, otherwise I'll go with a .577 T-Rex. Good shooting! :-)

you got lucky this time.
quite often they roam the bush in packs.

I've taken a few with my .308. Expensive meat considering the size of grouse and the cost of amo!!

Grouse are survival food. Don't kill them without having some respect.

smart not to lean the rifle against it for the pic, more than one rifle has been lost when the grouse comes to and tangles up in the strap and runs off with the rifle.
