Went hunting over the Thanksgiving weekend at a friends cabin on Bonapart Lake. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and left the cabin on the Quads around 5:00pm.
We were only on the road for 10 minutes and 2 miles from the cabin when I spotted two does along a hill top and started to run off. I went maybe another 100 feet, travelling pretty slow looking towards the hilltop and standing there was a big Buck.
I got off my Quad, took another look where the Buck was standing, he didn't move and was watching me. I grabbed my rifle, slapped in the magazine and looked up the hill top and he was still staring at me.
I raised my rifle, had him in my sights, pulled the trigger and bam......down he dropped. I raced up the hill, maybe a 50 yard shot and there he was, a monster 4X4 Buck!!!!!
This was my third year hunting and my first deer dropped and a 4pointer to boot!!! I was nervous and beaming with excitement.
When my friend got to my Quad I yelled down to him, " I got one, it's a 4 point, he said never mind that, is it dead?" I said yes he is.
He congratulated me, nice job.
As this was my first deer, he did the field dressing for me and his son carted it back to the cabin.
My friend said it was the fastest hunting trip that he has ever been on and, so close to the cabin too.
It was an awesome weekend spent with my wife and good friends on the Bonapart.
