So havent been on here much so far this year, one i have no computer and either use my phone or use computer at work and two, ive been busy hunting

so now that i have a little time, i figured id update my season to date and post a few pics .
Season started early, had planned a trip up past dease lake to my buddys cabin and then up into the yuknon and back down into BC for Caribou, Goat and Sheep. Well after a year of planning, researching, scouting in late may and throwing all our eggs into one basket, we heaed north for 10 days,.

so we drive 1200km, turn off the hwy and ........... due to severe flooding in june, roads and bridges were washed out all the way back to where we had PLANNED on going .... A huge disappointment as we had no truck or ATV, we had planned on drivbing in, parking and hiking in. So re decided to head back to hi scabin and regroup, a night at the cabin .

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o298/dentonjohnson/yukontrip038.jpg

We decided to head back to Gnat pass and hike up into the bowls and higher ground to look for caribou, so we drove back 150km, loaded our packs and headed up

Great start, lightmag!

If you can insert the IMG code (bottom of 4 choices), your photo bucket pics will show up in the thread with no need for us to click on the link.

we hunted that evening and th ewhole next day glassing all sides and bowls and found nothing, th ecaribou had been there earlier but had passed thru and the goat sign was old too.... back down to cabin to regroup again.. saw a 2x3 moose at bottom, legal to shoot, but it was being watched by tourists and it didnt feel right so we left it.

so being we didnt have a lot of options with transportation, we were limited in what and where we could go. So we day hiked from various spots around his cabin, around old cassier, talked to locals and put 40 plus km on our legs over the week learning the area. Overall still a great trip, learned lots, love the country seen grizzly, moose and black bears and we will be back there soon. Here are a few more pics of that trip before i move onto september...

So opening day comes , sept 10th up here and i take off for an evening hunt, spent 45 elk calling before dusk with no luck, started heading out on my quad, head arounf the corner and about 75 yards up the road are 2 moose.... i get off and start calling, noticing one had small antlers... 2pt maybe??? he keeps coming at me, its dusky, then i easliy count 1,2,3,4,5.... other side, 1, 2 .... nothing else??? wait, whats that pointing straight out by his eye??? ANOTHER POINT!! so close... so i had some fun with him, called him into, no joke 20 FEET, not yards, feet from me, got it all on my cell on video which i just lost recently :( the little bull was acting tough , stiff legged, head turned, eyes big lol, figured i should let him know i really didnt want to fight as he was so close it was getting uncomfortable lol

fun experience in all and so very close to tagging a moose on opening day , good start .

Week later i take a good freind who had just picked up her new 7-08 the day before out for an evening hunt on the quad. Year before she had been with and a part of getting a moose, but she herself had never shot a big game animal before . After a evening of checking blocks and such out with no luck we started to head out. Then at last light, what is that 50 yards into that opening.... 2 MOOSE!! off, quad, gun out, loaded and up, 2x2!!!! now i could have easily pulled the trigger and dumped it, but instead i held on him while i coached her over to me , loaded her rifle, found him in her scope, i told her where to aim, breath and sqeeze.... BOOM.... her first ever big game hits the dirt!! was she ever excited! and what a feeling to be able to give someone that opportunity and experience, felt better than doing it myself.

unfortuneatly thi sis the only pick i have as the others are on my phone that I just recently lost :(

seen lots, and came home 2.5 day slater with 1 moose and my decent whitetail, very rewarding deer for me. Hiked in thru trees to farm land, creeped around feild at dusk, looked back and seen 2 whiteys 400 yards back from where i had come from, 1 decent buck, but with no lean (in field) , tall grass and wind, i wasnt taking a shot at that distant, so when he fed i moved, then crawled to about 250 when he was getting nervous. He started troting to tree line, i grunted he stopped broadside, it was now or never, i kneeled down, aimed, breathed, crosshairs coming down slowly, front shoulder..... BOOM, 165 gr TSX out of my X bolt 300WSM hammers him!!! dropped him right there!!!

that gets me up to now, ive played with a few bulls vocally, seen a few more, yet to punch my own moose tag even though i have over 3/4 of a moose and a whitetail in my freezer already. Ill spend oct looking for a moose of my own, then onto Big Mulies in november, hopefully again in the peace and locally as well.

Nice job so far Lightmag, the season is off to a good start....especially the "racks"

Confused about one thing though, how does that moose fit into the Peace for antler points???

Cheers
