Ive always used my light non-waterproof pants during early season high country treks then switched to my woolies once the temp drops later in the year. I figure there must be some descent waterproof breathable pants on the market for later season high country hunting that weigh alot less then my old woolies? Anyone have any suggestions? I will look at Sitka when I get the chance but was hoping there might be something else out there as well?

Sitka 90% pants with gaters if there is snow on the ground.

I got a pair of mountain hardware winter wanderer pants. Light weight, waterproof, wind proof, breathable and a lot tougher than my Sitka pants. Under $100 IIRC. Easy to layer under so they are good from early fall into winter.

I have stayed dry in thsse in heavy mountain rain and they don't let wind through. Gotta buy them south of border tho.

Www.kuiu.com. The guide pants will be good for what you want.

This is my setup. I also spray waterproofing on my pants.

Thought I had a quote in there. I also run the 90% pant with gators. I spray waterproffing on my pants as well.

you guys running the sitka pants how come the 90% rather then the waterproof goretex ones like the stormfront etc?

Are the Kuiu actually waterproof I read there write-up on the website about the material they are using very interesting if they actually are as waterproof and breathable as they say?

I dip myself in silicone, and run around naked.

I also wonder why no-one wants to hunt with me anymore....... unexplained mysteries, I guess.

Have used the mammutt champ pants the last 3 years for basically all my hunting/hiking/snow shoeing/gting needs and they have been great. I Found a good deal on the new upgraded version of the champs , the Mammutt Castor and will use them this winter , they look AWESOME ! The Mountaineering guys have the technolgy , may not be camo but you are getting a far superior product than anything offered in camo and a tenth of the weight than wool.

I've been really happy with a pair of woolies and a light rainpant in my pack. Alot of these breathable, waterproof etc. etc. are quite noisey in the bush or a crusty snow. Depending on the kind of hunting you're doing it can be quite important.
