Nailed this guy at 8.00am and got him in my truck at 12.30pm. When i spotted him at a 100 yards i thought it was a stump with branches. Turns out he was facing away from me and looking back over his shoulder. I lifted my wifes 243 Savage when he turned broad side. I did hit him a tad farther back than i wanted to but i did take out the lungs because just as i squeezed off a shot he took a step. I couldn't move this guy by myself and i was 2 miles from the truck so i got a hold of a friend of mine to come up and help. By the time we got him in the truck there wasn't much left of my plastic sled. Full of holes and tears. He weighed 244 pounds before skinning.

I totally agree with you. The sled made it a tad easier but it was still a workout. He also fell off the sled a few times which was a pain to get him back on. Then the holes and tears in the sled allowed rocks and gravel to fill up which made it even more of a treat to drag. I am so sore stiff and tired today after that.

What a cranker. My hat is off to you sir! Great job.
I also would have chosen to bone him out but to each their own. Seeing as you had a helper it would have been easier to put him in two packs then so you could motor out of there!

Hope I see a deer like that this year but somehow I doubt it will happen! Fingers crossed. Congrats

Naaaah. My wife didn't have any confidence in my reloading because i just started in March. She's new to hunting so she thinks that it has to come direct from a factory or store shelf before it will work. I feel good because it was one of my loads i used in her gun and i feel even better that she can see there is nothing wrong with reloading your own ammo hahaha.

NICE buck!!!! :-D Congrats on a great deer, and success with the reloads. I just worked up a load for my .270wsm for using on an Island Rosie elk later this month. 140 grain Barnes TSX Triple Shocks, these should do the trick this year, and maybe moose next year. Again, Awesome bruiser buck!

Bruce. When they weighed him at the butchers with the head and hide on, he weighed in at 244 pounds. After skinning and head off, 200 pounds. The head itself weighed 24 pounds.

I hadn't planned on a mount Doubled but from some of the suggestions here and on Facebook about getting it mounted has kinda put the bug in my ear now. I don't have the cape but Derek from Similkameen Taxidermy says he has a few capes laying around i can purchase from him should i change my mind so i might just take him up on it. Who knows. May even get him to do the work.
