I got 3 spruce grouse last weekend in 5-04 while looking for moose(didn't see any moose that day), but the sprucies tasted quite good off of the bbq.

I've been grouse hunting in the Penticton/Ok Falls area the last couple evenings. Picked up a few ruffs and missed a bunch more. Had to cut it short both nights as my dog is not 100% and I don't want him to overdo it.

does anyone own one of the high powered air guns? I am really considering picking one up, but how quiet are they? I always turn down the chickens b/c Im hunting deer/moose, I know the 22 usually doesn't spook anything but still u never know

Darksith....get yourself a box of CB longs or shorts. They have the tiniest bit of powder...just enougth to get the round to about 700fps. Snap is like a cap gun.

We were using a 12 gauge the other day but also had a air handgun shooting 400fps which definitely slows them down unless you get a head shot which kills

I had a Daina / RWS mod 34. .177cal at 995FPS stone cold cocks a rabbit at 25yds broad side heart and lung..
bought it for 200$ sold it for 200$
you dont have to go with those "Super air guns" Daina makes some .22 cals that do 1100fps. Neither of them are super spendy to buy. My 34 was the most accurate rifle i have ever owned WHEN YOU SHOT GERMAN EXPENSIVE AMMO. expensive was double or tripple the price for 500... still cheap to shoot!

22 CB's seem quieter than my air rifles. I also use a 'Hammond Game Getter' in my 280Rem for grouse and what not when I'm hunting bigger game.
The dog and I have been stomping trails and roads in my backyard (1-2 to 1-4) hard this season so far, been producing many Blue's, some Ruffles, been using the 12g, but would prefer a shorter lighter 20g I think.
Upland hunting is fun.

You can use a stick or a rock too. You can walk up to grouse, they are as dumb as a bag of hammers.

My pellet gun of 1200 fps is louder than .22 cb so I would buy them instead.

Found a group of 8 grouse in 3 19 last week off and old over grown logging road. Just after my buddy commented on how this area didnt seam like grouse habitat. It was a slaughter.

Gonna head out tomorrow morning up past stump lake. Hoping for some grouse. Will be on the lookout for muleys for when my buddy is joining me later in the week!

I have been wondering about this. Ran into an article the other day that suggested that grouse wait until you are not looking at them (they can't see your eyes) to move away. Anybody experiment with that? I think the writer said it was because they are preyed on from above...and...i don't remember the rest of the theory...
