Finally, I killed an animal with my crossbow. A nice young Bull Moose, 4points on one side and 3 on the other. I got him the second morning of the bow season, left the vehicle around 7:00 am. Gave a cow call a few times when I was walking in and once I got to the treeline I could hear grunting in the timber. I gave another cow call set up under a small spruce and about 30 seconds later he walked out into the clear cut just a grunting away. He was walking perfect broadside to me and at 30 yards I let loose my bolt. It hit perfect and I seen blood come out the entry wound right away. He walked about ten steps started coughing blood and dropped about 15 yards from where I shot him, he didn't know what him, didn't even flinch when the bolt hit him. I was thrilled it was a nice clean quick kill. The bolt passed right through , went between the ribs on the way in and took out both lungs then between the ribs on the way out. This was one of the most satisfying hunts in my life even though it is not a huge moose, every second of it is burned into the memory bank and I will remember till I'm dead. I am pretty green when it comes to calling moose but my watching YouTube and practice paid off.
I have tried for a few years to get a deer or a moose with the crossbow, have had a couple close calls on deer but it just wasn't close enough or there was branches in the line of fire so I never took the shot. Any moose before this one I encountered knew I was there before I knew they were there and left in a hurry. Researching, learning and trying to call was they key to my success. The crossbow I have is a Parker Safari Magnum 175 lb , it really did the job.
