New to waterfowling on Vancouver Island

[Displaced Nova Scotian]

Hello guys, I'm somewhat new to Vancouver Island and been working out of province for the past year. Finally this year I'm around for the season but really don't know a lot about waterfowl hunting; I grew up in Nova Scotia hunting small game and now that I'm living here I am very interested in getting out and trying my luck at em. I live in Nanaimo but could easily travel South or North for a good hunt.

If anyone can pass on any advice on location, 'special' equipment or even take me out that'd be great:)
