I recently purchased a real nice digital camera with 12 x zoom,I am getting hooked on taking photos of all kinds of wildlife, and have put on some nices stalks just to get a good shot, how many of you love this hobby and actively go out just to get great shots of animals. The best part is no tags needed and an endless season, plus you can scout out great areas.I will try to post some of my pictures soon.

I keep telling myself I'll get out in the off season with the camera, but I rarely do. I do cary my camera in my pocket when hunting. If I see something cute, I pull it out and snap a couple. If I see something big, I just shoot it with the rifle. Hence, I have a variety of pic's like these, and not many of anything that says 'shoot me!':

those are pretty clear shots brotherjack how far are you away and what kind of camara.
i take quite a few pics when out in bush (by myself) during hunting season and basicly when ever i can get out of the city. the camara i have is a digital sony 4.2 pix and well anything over 50 yards really sucks and trying to stalk is outta the question cause the wife's usally in the truck when on vacation, she don't like the walking.

Not very far away at all. Maybe 10 yards on the little mulie, and maybe 40 on the elk.

The camera is an Olympus 500-UZ (6megapixles, 10x zoom). It was the best camera I could afford, and it's not terrible mind you, but if I had it all to do over again, I would have saved my pennies and held out for one that would make 8 (or more) megapixles and had an image stabilizer in it. I've taken a lot of blury pic's with this one - it doesn't handle movement or long distance very well. On a tripod it does a lot better.

As a pro-trained photographer, I will give you a tip for sharper pictures. As a general rule, put a 1 over the focal length of the lens you are using, and this will give you the minimum safest shutter speed for a hand-held shot. For example, with my Nikon 300mm f4 lens, I know I can safely hand-hold the camera and lens at 1/350 sec. and end up with a sharp shot. This is with a SLR and removable lens system.........so if you have got one of the digitals with a 12x zoom for example, this won't work so usually just placing the camera on "P"(program mode or "perfect picture" mode) will work as the camera automatically decides what the safest shutter speed is for the zoom length you are set at. Any more questions? hehe8)

Also, your mule buck picture is great, love the puppy dog eyes. But one thing to be conscious of when focusing on an animal OR a person is to make sure the eyes are focussed. If you look closely you see that you've actually focussed on his right antler, the eyes are a little soft. Love the soft lighting though. Overcast is always better as the clouds diffuse the light, softening the shadows.

I love camera hunting,my wife is always giving me shit cause all my pics are of game or scenery,if some one knows how I can post some shots here I`ll show you a couple of my better ones.I`ve got a few pics of 14 legal mulie bucks hanging out together.I`ve even got one of a 180+buck with 20 feet of dog chain wrapped up in his rack!

Nice pictures Brotherjack.

I find I'm really starting to enjoy taking pictures of general scenery and animals and such more and more in the last few years.

I was inspired to buy a new Panasonic digital camera with 12x zoom and 8 megapixels after seeing all the nice pictures that Darren and others were posting. It takes nice pictures, but it's bigger then my old camera and is almost the size of a SLR film camera so I take it when I'm planning to take pictures specifically.

I had a little Canon SD pocket camera that I would carry if I was hunting or hiking and saw something interesting. I'm planning on getting another small digital camera, probably another Canon with 4x zoom, just to throw in my pocket while hunting. John

I bring mine along with me when I go fishing in the summer. But some times I "forget" it(laziness:mad: ), and those are always the times the two twin five-points go bounding across the road and stop on the hill to strike a pose:cry: .

NightOwl - great advice, but my Camera won't let me do half the things you're suggesting. It's a consumer grade thing that you're supposed to put on 'auto' and point and shoot. The auto-focus on it has also got on my nerves a few times (as it focused on a blade of grass about 10 feet away instead of the nice 3 point mulie 30 yards away, and similar kind of stuff). Though, as I look at it, it does have a bunch of manual settings I can tweak, but it's all menu based stuff, and I don't often get a chance to be navigating through menu's to change the settings when I'm trying to get pic's of moving wildlife.

Nice shots Adam, lets see some more.

Right now I'm using a small Canon A75 Power Shot that has 3.2 mega pixels. It's got a small 3X zoom on it, and is auto focus.....so, pretty basic.

I have a, not so old, Nikon 601 35mm slr that has a broken back door latch. When I went to see about getting it repaired/replaced the guy told me that it was not worth fixing. I paid well over $1200.00 for the darned thing just a few years ago! Now it's not worth fixing!?!

Long story short, I'm saving for a Nikon D50 digital slr - body only, as the lenses that are with my "junker" 35mm will fit on the D50 just fine. The D50 is small enough to carry on hunting trips or day outings or what-have-you but it gives me the versatility of my older 35mm. Can't wait.

Beautiful.........

Is your gallery full? Focusing on antlers instead of eyes or not these photos are very good. Secondary career perhaps?

Long story short, I'm saving for a Nikon D50 digital slr - body only, as the lenses that are with my "junker" 35mm will fit on the D50 just fine.

You want to make sure of that. Some of the older lenses have a slightly different mounting system and the tabs on the mounts don't line up right. How old are the lenses of the "junker"? Are they AF? or manual? what about Ap?

Either way the D50 is a great camera, I shoot the D70s with 28-80F3.5-5.6 and Sigma 170-500mm and had great results, you can blow your pics up to 8x12 with no distortion.

Yup - made very sure before I retired the "oldy-but-a-goodie."

I'm really looking forward to getting some great photos. Great by my standards that is, I certainly am not a pro.

I hava a 12 optical Lumix and if your using the full power even with the anti shake thing they have built in, you can get far nicer pics if you carry a tripod or window mount. Maybe I'm getting old but I can't hold it steady enough at full power..It is enjoyable to get a good pic, have fun with your new toy..

I've seen him too, he hangs out on the rock bluffs between the exit to the connector and Gormans. Pretty wild.

You serious? I didn't know we had billy goats around here:lol: lol! I participated in a sheep count out Westside road once(needless to say, we didn't spot one!), but aren't the mountains around here a little to low for them?
