ive been really working out allot and getting out for a long distance day hike every weekend and was looking for a challenge. I wanted to see if i could handle taking an animal up a mnt and huff it out.

These past few hikes ive been seeing bears feeding in the alpine and really thought about taking a decent bear for my mom and john who really wanted meat. This day hike was a total of 18.4 miles and just over 16hrs.

You might well indeed be crazy but that's beside the point:-P.

I refer to think of spring bear hunting as sheep training. Never really done any in the fall.

He's a good looking bear in a cool setting! Congrats!! (can't watch the vid here at work but will when I get home).

Now you're ready to take it to the next level and pack a bear like that uphill:smile:.
Downhill is the easy part.

How did the eberlestock feel with the heavy weight?

Cool! My kind of hunt.

Sounds like it's good training for the upcoming cat season. You won't even need your dogs!

Alpine hunting is very addicting. The more you push yourself the greater the rewards and the harder you'll want to push yourself next time. Congrats on the hiking and bear.

Beautiful area. Nice black bear. Good work you hauled that bear out. I really like your German shephard - nice looking dog.

I don't think your crazy it could have been a moose. lol Really nice bear and good job on getting him. It's nice your family wanted the meat and you were willing to work so hard for it. Good on you, we should go for a hike one day I am sure it would be followed with a good story and pictures, ( about a week later when the work was done lol )
