Hi fellow hunters, a buddy and I are heading out Oct 4th to hunt 7-14. He has a draw for any bull in that area so we have been doing some work getting set up. We have a wall tent and thought about setting it up around Great Beaver Lake or Teardrop Lake. I知 a crazy fishermen from Nootka so will have to drop the line in every puddle of water I can find.

I知 not looking for your hotspot where the moose are tied up to the trees, just some general ideas.

Where would you camp at in the area?

What area would you spend more time than others, closer to PG or Fort St James?

If you shot a moose where would you take it to hang for a few days?

If you were going to get your moose cut up do you know anyone who can make cheese smokies? We always get them made in Cranbrook from my buddy Rick at Rick痴 Fine Meats. So the bar is set very high.

How has the deer hunting been in the area?

And the most important question, what lures should I bring with my spinning rod for the trout? My Tomic plugs are most likely toooo big.

Thanks in advance, drop by the camp and I値l have some cold beer on tap for you.

Fishing in the lakes around there is not the greatest, lots of coarse fish but a few small rainbows are around. Flies would probably be the best 'lure'. The PG side will be pretty busy at that time of year. Was out there opening weekend and saw 5 camps already, most up by Teardrop and Docs Lakes. Will likely be that way through to end of cow season. Plus on weekends you get a lot of weekend warriors from town driving around the east half of the unit. You can hang your moose in or near your camp, it will be cool enough. The closest locker/butcher is hunifords on Ness Lake. Not sure if they do cheese smokies.

We had a great trip to 7-14 in October. We stayed at Great Bever Lake campsite right on the water. It was very hot the first few days so we hunted hard and saw a few moose but no horns. Once the weather turned cold and wet the moose started to come out of the timber. We found a cow and calf Oct 11th when they just opened but the calf was always hiding behind some trees until they were gone. Funny how that works, the cow was in the open several times but not the calf.

We headed back to one of the areas we found a nice slash and sure enough there was a nice bull on the edge of the timber. We made a plan and it all worked out as he dropped just inside the trees.

Thanks wapitiwhacker you arrived just in time to drag him out and help with all the work.

Thanks to Taylor69 and barry1974w for the PM's with some great info.

You CANNOT beat Hunnifords meats just out-side of PG.
Havn't had anything done from them that was not simply " The best"
Their salami's are unreal!
Havn't tried their sausage or smokies as we make our own...
As for 7-14, I hunt the other side of PG. Sorry
