This has been one of the best early season waterfowl seasons I have ever had. On Sept 16 my wife and I headed out for a later afternoon/evening hunt at a place that must remain unnamed. We got there what I considered to be a little late. We set the dekes out and were putting up the blind, with the truck parked right there when the ducks started dropping into our spread. We hid the truck and sat back to wait for the action to start. It didn't take long. By 6:15pm I was limited out in mallards. We sat there for 40 minutes watching flock after flock come as we waited for the geese to show. Wouldn't you know it, they came in, but landed about 100 yd out with no way to do a sneak.
Friday the 21st I went back with my son and we did the exact same setup. We totaled 15 mallards and 3 Canada's.
I figure if I hit this place once a week I should have good hunting all fall. I think all the birds we killed were local's. Can't wait for the migrators.

Tried another field tonite and only saw 1 small flock of geese land a flock of ducks about a mile away. Guess where I'll be next week.

With that many ducks, even I can hit a few. The geese on the other hand, 5 came in, 3 went down. Just way too much fun.

I hadn't hunted waterfowl for years, but got back into it about 5 years ago when I discovered that there are actually quite a lot of birds in the Cariboo. Now I'd rather be in the duck blind than chasing around a big old swampdonkey. And ducks are so much easier to pack out.

I got my whitetail out of the way tonite so I can concentrate on quackers and honkers for the next couple of weeks. I did BBQ duck breasts last night. Will definitely be doing that again soon.

Good job!! It can be tough waterfowling in the Cariboo. Hence not sharing your hot spot. lol Nice birds. I too hope the season continues to bring more duck luck in the Cariboo. We have also done well in the first couple of weekends of the season. Lots of honkers on Saturday and lots of ducks on Sunday. Good luck

I've decided that I definitely prefer the afternoon hunts as opposed to the morning hunts. Lots more time to set up and it's all done in daylight.

Looks like there is hope for another type of hunt around
PG. Question from a want to be waterfowler; do I need to hunt
cultivated land for good success? Or will crown marshs do
ok too?
