My father and I just got back from a 7 day fly in for Caribou. We were dropped off at a lake, and set up spike camp 2 hrs. from the lake. We didn’t see a lot of bou, but a definite highlight included sneaking up to 10 yards on a bedded 4 point bull and 80 yards from a whole pile of mountain goats. We battled insane winds the entire time, we couldn’t even really glass unless we were behind rocks, trees etc.

The bull below was spotted on Day 4, and was taken 8.5 kms from our pick-up point. He is a gnarly old beast with loads of character and a few really twisty tines. He’s the only bull we saw that had already stripped his velvet. We spotted him with two other bulls just working their way along through the patches of sub-alpine fir, and had to race to cut them off before they cleared the far and headed for the wide-open plateau. After a 500 yard chase, we caught up to him at 100 yards, put the binos on him to make him a legal 5 and pulled the trigger. He piled up with a bullet through both lungs 150 yards later. His two 4 point companions gawked at us for a while before clearing off for parts unknown. Turns out the legality of a 5 point wasn’t even really an issue as he turned out to be 8x8 with a couple of additional squeekers per side.

We packed him back to spike camp that day, and had a grizz on the gutpile the day after.

This is my first caribou, and I gotta say all be back, if only for the country they live in!

Yup, he's a BC bull. He'll go up on the wall as a euro, although it was really hard leaving that cape behind!

Thanks vip_ruger and others....to be honest I'm not big on taxidermy, just like the look of a clean white euro mount (and it was 8.5 klicks from our take out point, which helped me decide!). NOt sure if he makes book, not even sure how to measure him up. Does he look bc book?
