I usually don't go out early as I don't like to worry about the heat and game. But that said I had today off and could not resist a little exploration.I decided to take my 20yr old sons 243 that I bought him for a grad present as he is off to UBC van and the rifle is a virgin.I had just got on my quad and was only about a half klick from the truck when I saw what appeared to be a buck.It was still a little dark.I pulled over and glassed him with the binos and could tell it was a good size buck but just not quite lite to count points.Stupid buck wanders off but not very far and about 5 min later its lite enough and I count 4 on each side grab the rifle and boom, missed the first shot[Buck Fever I quess]He runs another 20yds stops and this time I settled in and he was down.Great first of the season and I now have to hunt out of region for another

Hey Great job! How do you like the .243? What make?

Almost no kick at all and got the job done. Its one of those Savage Combos .I was using 95g Fusion ammo nothing expensive.I usually don't care what I shoot as long as the bullet goes where the cross hairs are.

Thanks for all the positive comments I new the HBC forum members would like those forward hooked brow tines so I made sure I had a good shot of them.I can't believe all the fat on this buck, must mean he is eating real good and maybe were in for a brutal winter.I have prob cleaned 20 deer in the last 4yrs and never seen fat that thick.
