Not the monster I was after but after sitting in the same spot for a week I wanted to see something drop so I decided to mix it up a bit and try somewhere else for an evening, within a half hour of grunting and bleating this guy stepped out at 325 yards and my 375 H&H mag roared, and boy did that big bugger echo:eek:

I got a little worried because there was no snow and couldn't find out excactly where he was standing, after 45 minutes of seaching I had thoughts of a miss but kept at it and finally found a whole wack of hair and some blood and pieces, following the blood trail was challenging with the lack of snow but I managed and found this guy piled up down a steep bank. Good thing he had a small body because the drag up the bank was a @#$%, guess thats what happens when you hunt alone.

On a side note the 375 H&H did its job and then some, the bullet went inbetween ribs on the entrance and tagged a rib or two on the exit, BUT MAN WAS THE EXIT HUGE, 270 gr hornady interlock. I took pictures of both in and out holes but last time I posted pictures showing meat some people got a little girly. So if you want to see them say so in your post and the majority rules, the picts arn't bad anyways just a hanging skinned animal.

Right on. Nothing wrong with that boy. since you were hunting alone you dont have to split the meat with anyone  .

I think most people on this site have seen skinned out animals hangin. I am sure curious to see what that bullet did.

Good buck.....it's a little scary when you can't find the area the animal was standing at when shot. Gives that sick feeling.

Congrats

Thanks for all the comments guy and by popular demand here are the pictures. Considering no major bone was hit, I'd say the exit wound was very impressive,. The exit hole is basically untouched, there were a few pieces of dangling meat I trimmed off since my dog was giving me the "jedi mind trick" feeeeeed meeeee Dad. Pardon the hair on the first picture, it was taken pre clean-up....

I just checked my notes, the bullets are NOT 260gr hornady interbond, they ARE 270gr hornady interlock which does explain the exit hole a little better. However at 325 yards me thinks there is still a bunch of energy left over8-)

I'm still shooting off some reloads that came with the gun when I bought it

Congrats

Yup ,definitly one of the drawbacks of hunting alone, the extra set of eyes sure makes a difference before, during, and after the shot. For me the worst part of hunting is after the shot and before you find the animal. Thank god he didn't go far, good experiance though, you can never get too much practice tracking game, I definitly learned a few things about tracking in wet and rainy conditions with no snow, glad I had a big gun.8-)
