There is a short and semi interesting story to go along with this guy, but I'm sitting on the side of the mountain with just 2 bars for a signal strength, so the details will have to wait. The short of it - he is a solid 7x7 with the shortest tine being about 6 1/2 inches. If he had another 1/4 inch on the one little sticker he would have been a legitimate 8x7. We got him to the meat cutter after skinning him out, and he did a quick trim to split him, remove the spinal cord, excess fat, sex, and head. Then we hung him on the scales and he came out at bang on 525 lbs.

One shot with the 30-06 at about 85 yards using 165 gr. Nosler Partitions in my hand loads. It went through both lungs just far enough back not to damage anything on the shoulders.

(With Tapatalk set up on the forum, this would be so much easier - wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

Now to try to fill that sheep, whitetail, mulie, bear, and/or spike/fork moose tag.

Nice work! 85 yards, bugles or cow calls bring him in?

Thanks guys.
I had been talking with this guy since opening day bow season. That morning I started with grunts (I use a tube with a mouth diaphragm) and a few light non-aggressive bugles. When he started talking back again from about 150 yards into the timber, I got more aggressive with the bugles to try to lure him in. He kept holding back in the thick stuff until I changed tactics and started kicking the crap out of the little trees beside me. That, I believe, is what pulled him out. The problem was, there was still only questionable shooting light. With the Zeiss bino's, I could clearly make out antlers, but getting a solid count took about 10 minutes of cow calls and grunts on the diaphragm without the tube (because moving would have exposed my position and my hands were busy holding my bino's to my face) to wait for it to get lighter.

The story gets better, but there are 3 whitetail does walking past me at about 45 yards down the hill. I've got to start paying attention to stuff going on around me.
