Thank you all for the tips/advises for goat hunting.
It was a great trip. It took us 2 nice days to get to the area we made the camp. I spoted this billy at about 400 yards sitting on a cliff...all i had was his head and front shoulder...then he got up and slowly walked away into the darkness.....I decided to move on to him.
Adrenalin rushed in. Quickly climbed up the ridge and run to where about I last seen him. I run past the area to cut off his retreat...started getting to the edges of the cliff looking down....nothing...tough terrain....thick blueberries in the way... started throwing rocks down....then moved back towards where he was the first time. Any chance I had I got to the edge hanging and looking down...nothing....Then I get to the exact spot where I saw him first.....looking there examining the shelves etc... I move lower down.....and there he is....staring at me head on at about 15 yards.....I take the rifle aim...all I have is his head and torso ....I pick the torso....hit him...he turns around stumbling moves back....I have nothing to shoot...5 yards more and he turns right a bit ...i hit him again in the shoulder....he topples and roles down about 15 yards to next shelve and gets stopped by a stump. Then the work started......skinning, deboning, packing.....

Congratulations ! Gotta love goat hunting eh? I'm not sure how you arranged for that animal to die in such a nice place. Come on, tell us the secret !

It may look like a nice spot....but it is a cliff.....as you look at the picture we are right at the edge of 20-30 foot drop, it is a third shelve in the cliff....when he was hit he was at the top shelve, about 20 feet up from his resting place and 15 feet down from the top of the ridge. From the distance the whole area looks like a big cliff with small pockets of trees.
When I first spotted him I realized he had not much room to move, he was not spooked so I quickly climbed to the top of the ridge to get above him and run like a goat to the areas he was hanging around. I proved to be right - he did not move far....I spooked him from one side of the cliff by throwing stuff down and run to the side I last saw him. There I quickly descended to see......and there he was standing on a narrow path, staring at me....no further than 15 feet; he looked like an angel :)

You can count the rings on the horns. A quick search found this site that shows how to count them, just scroll down a ways and you will see it. It looks like you have an older goat there so the growth rings may be very close together lower down by the skull. Look for the rings that are the deep ones, it is pretty obvious up higher what a growth ring is which will help you where they are tight.

It wouldn't surprise me if he is even older he has a huge head and big body. THE 10 " horns actually look small on him since the rest of him is so big :) That is a really nice goat and the terrain looks similar to some of the areas we hunt here.

Wow, I've never got a goat in the woods yet. Too cool.
Damn fine job you guys did there.
If he's only six and already has no teeth he musta been eating rocks. Maybe that explains why he's hanging out in the timber. Trees are softer and probably taste far better than the rocks! :)

After the provincial inspection it was determined that he was injured in previous year; probably due to a tumble of a cliff...one of his horns was shorter by 1/4' and some teeth were missing....

Really nice goat, and I love the timber picture of him. That's not something you see too often.
