are they edible? Regs say can only be waylaid for the purpose of protecting property...ok...but can they be eaten thereafter??? I don't remember if it's Marmota flaviventris (yellow bellied) around the okanagan...and i am pretty sure i have not ever seen one on a grocery shelf.

I have heard that the Vancouver island Marmot tastes like chicken and is better than Viagra.

Sure, you can eat them. They are fatty and tough. Yum!

I hunted with a guy in the Yukon who really wanted to find a marmot to shoot and eat. He said they were very tastey and that growing up his family ate them alot. If you looked up there are a lot of recipies on the net for ground hog they should be simular to cook. I have never ate any and don't plan to. But if it was all I had to eat i would eat it.

A big marmot is all fur and fat. Having said that, I have heard that central BC Indians ate more marmot than deer in the olden times.
