My boy and I went out for opening day and we saw a wack of does, 6 bears, and a couple of nice buck but he was not able to get a shot off. He then passed up a spike white tail, saying, it is too small!

Day 2 we left Jamison and headed up to Surrey Lake. We got there in the late afternoon, we set up camp and left for a walk to check out all the logging that has happened this year....our honey holes were clear landings now. Sunset was fast upon us so we decided to head up the power line to scout some new areas. As we were heading up the road we could see a truck parked in the middle of the road about 1.5 km away. I told my son, must be someone chasing a buck. As we got closer, we could see the people in the truck. We stopped behind them they were 2 older guys checking out a group of mulies, doe, small buck and a boomer 4 point. The deer were only 50 yards off the road. I had my bow but I told the kid to get out and pop the big one! He jumped out, loaded his 243, lined up, and BOOM...lung shot, dropped the big boy in his tracks! Not bad for a 12 year old!

Dressed out at 165lbs at the butcher's.

Nice! Congrats to both of you, that's a great buck! I hope I get a chance on a mulie buck like that some day. The way these kids are cleaning up this year I'm not sure I have a chance though. LOL

Pretty cool - I am now begining to rethink this idea of bringing my kids along if they are going to shoot deer bigger than anything I have.

My Lord!!! That's a gagger in anyone's books!!! You guys must have crapped your pants when that Buck hit the ground! What the hell were the 2 old guys doing, waiting for the Buck to walk up to the truck before they shot it??? I guess this is a great example of "You snooze, you lose"!!! That's one hell of a fine looking Buck! Congrats to you both!

Hey I (old guy) with my partner (old guy) were on in Reg 3 4pt hunting yesterday and it wasn't us. 50 yds are you kidding me they should have had it down and field dressed by the time you showed up. Good job for getting it yourselves. We were at 5,000 early and it was driving snow. So headed down lower for most of the day. Saw lots of does but no bucks and only one chicken which my partner took. Didn't really see anybody which is always good for us. Congratulation to your boy!
