well i was off to the east koots in search of elk just before sept 1 , we set up camp and did some scouting for sat morning .
sat morning was pretty slow as it was super hot , 28 deg . so we did a drive down low in some sparse tree lines with tons of grass and shade. thats when i seen the first buck.
I moved up a small dirt road into shooting range but it was way to loud to go into the bush after it, i just kept moving in the low grass till i was 40 yards away.
i spent the last several weeks shooting at 50-60 yards so i decided that 40 yards was a good shot ....nice and level an just enough cover.
I let the arrow go and thought i missed ?...........using a "spott hogg" ? i could not have missed.
i watched the deer move away about 15 yards and it stopped ! it turned to lick its shoulder and then i seen "the wobble".......... in 5 more seconds the deer was down.just a touch high with the shot as i took off the top of the heart.
a nice early 2x3 white tail buck, shot with a PSE vendetta, carbon x force 300 arrows and muzzy 100 gn 3 blade broad heads.

almost ready for the butcher........

we seen a few big bulls and a spike bull along with several cows , i did get into range a few times on the cows but was busted once at 30 yards by a white tail doe.........one year i will get my elk.
i did find this close to where i seen one of the bulls a 6x6..............this rub was just over 8 feet high.

so off to a good start and deer steaks tonight...........stay tuned for the mule deer to be shot soon.
