I flew in solo to itcha lake last friday. I had never hunted caribou and this was my fist fly-in. I hiked up the the upper plateau below itcha mtn and put and perfect stalk on a hed of about 20 animals that were hiding out in the snow patches. A part of me wanted to hold for for a larger one, as I had been advised to do, but since it was my first caribou, the stalk went perfect and when i peeked up over the ridge at 200yds to find two legals bulls in the group it was too much to pass up. He was shot Four 4 miles from my camp as the crow flies and probably vloser 7 or 8 following the trail out, needles to say it took two very heavy and very long trips to get him out but it was also VERY rewarding. Probably should have held out, as the next day, of course i would see a bigger bull, much closer to camp, but it could have very easily gone the other way as well. Thanks to marlin375, mod7rem,rod and all those who sent me feed back and info over the last few months i was well informed and had none of the issues I was worried about.

A buddy of mine gets a chubby any time somebody mentions the Itchas. Looks like you did well, congrats. What was the motivation to do that hunt solo? Or did someone back out at the last moment?

Good first Caribou bull to take and being solo!. Congrats... I like the velvet on him and it looks to be in good condition. Are you keeping it or stripping it off?.

Its a hunt i really wanted to do so i just booked it with the intention of going regardless, asked around and didnt have any takers. I stripped the velvet as it was a little beat up and soon to come off.

Way to go Evan, thats a nice Bull. Great way to see that country. Said to be no other place in the province like it, I have no doubt you will make a return trip. Did you run into anyone else while you were there?

No bugs, no bears and awesome weather. there were thre other guys camped up near the alpine and they got a bull the same morning and another family who flew in on there own plane and camped by the lake but i think they were only hunting down low.
