I am going on a goat hunt this coming weekend. We are going to camp up in the alpine for few days and try to get the white beast.
I read some books and articles about them but if anybody got any tips I would appreciate it.

keep glassing, just because you dont see them doesnt mean theyre not there. Take your time and plan out your stalk and do your best to shoot a billy there is some good info on the net on identifying billys. Look for them in the early morning sun and seeking shade or snow in the afternoon heat.

Look for the big white thing on a brown hillside. :)
I find it easiest to identify billies by the big glands behind their horns.
Saw a billie last week that already had the shit stain on it's rear.
Somehow it starts getting pretty easy to identify billies after a couple dozen....

If you can, I find it best to come down on them instead of heading up at them.
I heard it best when somebody said you just stand above them and lob a rock over the hill. Get ready cause they're gonna run right into your arms. :)
Good luck!

Make sure you are in good shape, I am sure you are. The high shoulder shot is the best to drop one. Use a rangefinder if you have one. I have shot over goats more so than other animals thinking they further away than they are. Take hiking poles to help stabilize that big pack on the way down. Enjoy the country, be careful on those steep slope, cliffs. Have fun.

Get above them if you can. They always look down and climb up.

Don't climb until you have spotted a goat and know he's there.

Bring some rope, even if you don't think you need it, when you are on a clay sand slope trying to retrieve your dead goat and the end result of a slide down the slope is a 20 foot plus fall it sure would feel good to be hanging on to some rope.
