Miss Dana's 1st Muley Buck

Yesterday my 14 year old daughter, Jesse, saw Opening Day success. She has hunted for a few years now and has harvested several bears and one muly doe, but muley bucks had alluded her until last evening. One shot from her iron sighted Model 99 300 Savage and the buck dropped. Needness to say, I am a very proud dad!

Good going, I guess next year you'll have to guide her to one of the "muy grande" bucks you've got tied up. Nice first buck with a classic firearm and open sights to boot.

Jesse nice two pointer, I've never seen a two point buck that big bodied, it's got a ton of meat and on opening weekend is surreal. Now I want one. Way to go, and great shooting also, your a hunter for sure.

Great rifle too...I killed my first deer with that very same rifle/caliber. Same outfit my dad used to make his first kill as well, may have even been the same for my grandfather as the rifle has been handed down from the previous generation.

I picked up the Model 99 for her when she was just a wee little one. I knew I needed 2 of them as my son would be getting the generational Savage which was his great grandfather's then his grandfather's then his father's. IMO they are the best deer gun out there regardless what the 'modern' gun guys think.

As for getting her a bigger buck next year, she was on 2 exceptional bucks only an hour earlier that were covered by brush and then gave us the slip. When she saw this buck she made the decision to take it. She wanted a 'first buck' more than she wanted a 'big' buck.

In an "era" where most tweens and teens are glued to their iphones/ipads/laptops/cellphones and texting/Facebook is their main passtime, it's good to see someone teaching their child about something real and not being afraid to pass on the hunting tradition. Congrats to both of you.
