My father-in-law is from Alberta and he walked with me last year on the moose opener for 2011.
I was lucky enough to get one when he was with me. So this year I applied for a permit to accompany so he could hunt as well. We left the house on the afternoon of the 15th to head up the alaska hiway for 4 days. I took him to a spot I hunted alot 20 years ago. Back then there were lots of hunters and lots of moose. One thing did not change still lots of hunters (lol). We hunted hard for four days and only saw 3 cows the full trip.

I had to work so we headed back home with our tails between our legs. I told him we could get in a couple more day hunts around my work hours. I got him to pick me up after my last shift at 6 am and off we went. I thought we would try an area we haven't hunted yet. We were heading down a lease road when a truck pops out of a side spur and heads right in the direction we were going to go. I said no point following that guy. I pulled into a cut block road to turn around. Once I saw the road and the age of the aspens I decided to go further to get a better look. I drove about 300 yards and found out that the road only went in another 100 yards.

Right away I spot a moose I told my father-in-law to get out and walk around the back of the truck and then come up my side of of the truck. I then by this time looked at it through my binos and identified it as a bull. Once he got near the window I whisperd "bull at 100 yards take him". Just as he shoots the bull starts to run I gave a cow call and he stopped dead, and I said give him another". He made no mistake on this shot. So after 400+ km on quads and about 40 more on foot. My father-in-law shoots one beside the truck. We were really excited he turns 71 next month and was so pleased to have taken a nice young moose. So after some high fives I said pass your camera. He looked shocked and then told me he forgot it. I said no worries I brought mine. I pulled it out and the batteries were dead. So sorry no field pictures. He cut his tag and we processed it and were back at the house at 8:20 in the morning.
