Went out to Actually try abit of Yote Hunting today....ended up with my 1st Whitetail Buck, I'm pretty Happy about it, these Fellas are few and far between around here !

Not much to tell other then I went for a Hike in a good local area I frequent. I Didn't get 15 Minutes into my walk & Spotted this Fella about 200 meters away.....looked like he just stood up out of a bed. Dropped down to my knee, unshouldered my 260 & took aim. A decent little 5x5 !
I actually didn't like the shot as he was slightly quartering towards me...I waited for a moment hoping for a broadside lungshot but he was definately gonna bolt so I took the shot I had and sent a 125 Nosler Partition into his left shoulder...He jumped staright up and went down hard and never got up.

The Bullet actually broke the near shoulder, removed the lungs and heart, then exited the far ribcage leaving an exit wound about an inch and a half around. Excellent performance from that Lil 6.5mm 125 grain Nosler bullet

Now with a Meat Buck in the Freezer I can hold Out for that BIG Muley !

That's the way it usually happends. Your out looking for one thing and you find another. This fall the same thing happened when I was out looking for a bear and came across a nice two point blacktail. You just take them as they come as you never know when your next chance will be. I'm a firm believer that a bird in the hand is better then two in the bush.

Congradulations on a nice looking whitetail. Better eating then a mule deer in my opinion.

Marc.

Nice looking buck. I've hunted the North Thompson of Region 3 for 16 years and only once saw a whitetail (doe), needless to say I don't bother buying a tag. Looks like Kamloops area from the terrain, is it?

Yep, No secret he's a Kamloops Local !
Or at least he was......

Yes this isn't exactly Whitetail Country. Getting to be more and more of them, quite a few Does around. The Bucks are hard to come by. This is the 1st Buck I've seen here during the open season in over 10 Years as well.

Smart enough that in over a Decade I've never seen one during the "open season" ........same goes for alot of the Locals that I know who actively pursue these critters :|

Also the Pic is a bit "one sided"....behind the "camera" is some Really deep and Thick gullies and creek drainages full of alder and birch willow etc. bordering the Pine forests.
Very thick and tough to hunt when they get down into those ;)

Will,
Congrats on hammering one of those fleas. Best to keep them at bay before they take over. Definately they are hard to come by and that looks like a beauty. Congrats big time. How's the moose hunting goin?

Sadly my Moose hunt has come and gone........
I had set aside 4 days for it but Blew my Wheel drive the second day..
lost my truck for 2 days while I waited for parts.
Didn't see much for Moose in my Zone.....NO snow and Most of the Moose were still up abit higher( just outside my MU)
Tons of Hunters this year, way more then I've ever seen there. Even came across Camps of them with Campers quads etc. That was a 1st for me.
Sad to say my LEH is over and there will be NO Moosie in my Freezer this year:sad:
Oh well.....Still some Good Muley hunting to come and my 1st Whitey helped Cheer me up !

A fella I know, flipped me a couple of steaks from his reg 3 whitey, for helping him out on the cutting. I must say that they were fantastic eats.

Yep, Kenna Cartwright Park

It sure has made it a lot easier since they cut in all those trails to get around on. We just have to get rid of all those joggers and dog walkers. that's what the stadium track and dog parks are for. Us hunters need a dedicated park in town too!
