Conservations officers killed an old 400 lb black bear just off Road 17 early Sunday after the loss of 3 goats and 2 sheep.
According to the owner of the property Diana Williams, the bear must have been old and senile as the kills were not for food and his belly was fully of choke cherries. Conservation Officers became concerned late last week with a reported siting in the area and set up bear traps – but that did not work. Below a piece of equipment for CO’s to sit on – in safety – and about 1 am – the bear came back and was shot when it crossed a light set up to illuminate a farmer’s field. The carcass has now been removed.
