On Friday a friend of my dads pulled into the parking lot of his office with a mulie he just shot in the back of his truck. It had a 32" outside spread on a typical 4x4 frame. I'm told that the tines are all at least 12" long and the rack has heaps of mass all the way out. The 5" brow tines start very heavy and curl forward like bull horns. They are guessing that this buck will go over 230 points...which may make it a new typical record according to the boone & crockett site. I have been promised pics in the next day or two......

I just thought I'd toss this out there to see if anyone else has heard any rumors of this buck yet.

230 typ net.................dream on!!!

I've seen bucks with what you describe and then some score nowhere near that.

Outside spread doesnt score so it's going to need a real wide inside with some serious main beams.

I would love it to be true though. Even if you are off by 20 inches we have a new prov record.

LMAO!!!! 12 inch long tines??? Do the math. It takes way more than 12 inches to add to 230. What, does it have 60 or 70 inches of mass? :) Sounds like a whole lot of wishing and a whole lot of ground shrinkage. ;)

LMAO!!!! 12 inch long tines??? Do the math. It takes way more than 12 inches to add to 230.

I beg to differ

Lets assume a few things here and see where the math leads us

-I was told by email from Tank that it's got a 32" outside spread...if its a clean 4X4 lets assume a 28" inside spread
-if I recall correctly the main beam is generally longer than the inside spread but lets just call it 28" as well
-Lets assume that the G2 will generally be 1 1/2 to two times the tine length so lets call it 20"
- mass....hmmm lets say 7", 6", 6", 5"
- Add 12" each for the G3 and G4 and 5" for the brows and you have a side that equals 101"....double that and its 202...add 28" inside spread and by my math that equals up to 230" gross

Still waiting on the pictures though!!!

Took the words right out of my mouth willyman! I was about to type the same thing in response to danas post! A buck as you described, is very possible, i believe the world record typical is about 230. we just dont seeum in BC well ever i guess!
On another note, ive seen a shed 4 point shed found around here that measured 101" so they are out there!

dana
11-20-2006, 06:45 PM
Dream On Little Dreamer. When no tape gets put on a rack and the guys 'guess it' to be 230, chances are it's probably a 160 class dink. ;) I don't suspect the Burris Buck to fall anytime soon, especially not in BC. I'm sorry if I sound blunt but rumors of world class bucks rarely ever pan out. Just seen too much speculation over the years on the ol' world wide web.

Come on now Dana....Just cause you didn't shoot it doesn't mean it can't be big:eek: !

Just kidding..I'm glad everyone is gettin work up over this...thats what rumors are for!

Word is this buck should fall in between 220 and 230 gross. It has a kicker that may acount for 6 or 7 of those points so its probably not going to bust the 30 year old world record. That being said it is still going to be BIG and I would expect it to more than threaten the current BC record.

Unless all those involved are ******ed and its a "160 class dinker"

I sincerly doubt its going to be new world record as well. I have only heard that it may gross around the 230 mark.....keeping in mind that it has a kicker, the net will be lower. I started this post to see if anyone else has heard of the buck as I hadn't seen pics yet.

If all goes well, pics should be up tonight.

An extra eh? That right there is why I doubted the World Record claim. BC is very famous for producing 'What if' bucks. That trash factor is what gets us every time. If the gross is including a 6 inch extra, you will be loosing a bare min of 12 inches from the score. Then you will have the side to side deductions. Probably one hell of a great buck. Hopefully the New Provincial Record from last year gets topped. See that I can believe, World Record, not a chance. :) Now lets see some pics before we have a riot on our hands. :)

What a monster!

I have been reading through all the posts and it looks like we are just assumng it was shot in the Quesnel area? Can anyone confirm what region the buck is from?

To those asking questions about publishing, I have sold pictures to magazines and most of them just buy your pic for a one time use and you retain it's future rights, sometimes magazines will ask that you don't publish the picture for a set amount of time (1 year aftr selling it to them etc. and yes there are some that actually buy pics outright (National Georaphic etc) but it costs them so it isn't widely practiced. Either way I don't think you need to worry about that when posting on the net just reduce the quality so that it couldn't be usefull.

That buck is a true monster, Lived up to the talk!!! Worth the wait for the pics. Definately a dream buck of a lifetime for a muley nut! Pat that boy on the back for me. Now the quo I ask, is that guy a monster buck seeker, that hunts like crazy passing up bucks that most dream of, or is he just a average deer hunter that would of shot any 4 point, but happened to have a lucky day!

As for Muley Crazy and the other rags, they perfer that the pics stay off the internet until they publish. That is just a request though. When a true Monster like this buck gets killed, it can sell a lot more mags if no one has seen it before.

Apparently he and his hunting buddy spotted this buck on the first day of their week long hunt. It was 800 yrds away and quickly moved into the bush. They spent the rest of the trip passing up all other shooting opportunities, trying to find this guy again. They finally found him on the afternoon of the last day of the hunt.

I talked to Berreth on Sunday and he couldn't figure out how they had gotten off track on the gross by almost 10" as it was a very basic rack...nothing complicated. Best guess was they used the outside spread instead of the inside which would account for 6", not sure where the other inches were coming from though. As stated above 214 gross and a shade over 200 net...very symmetrical rack, one main beam was 2" shorter than the other, other than that there was only an inch difference in the main frame...the mass measurements came out with zero deductions! It was 26" inside, main beams of 26" and 24".....g2's were 21" if I recall...bases were 5 3/4 but the upper mass measurements were 6" or better...umm I think that's all i remember! Not quite what it was first thought but still a monster!

Exactly. i happened to be there at the scoring the guys said themselves thats where they screwed up...used outside width and came up with the original thought score. i tell ya, that rack was impressive to see in real life!!

Very common mistake with guys that haven't had a lot of experience scoring.

Very common mistake with guys that haven't had a lot of experience scoring.

More likely a common mistake by guys WHO THINK they know what they're doing. Guys without experience could have come closer printing off a score sheet of the net and follow the directions:rolleyes: . But at least we had some great anticipation for a few days.

Beauty buck regardless!!
All the top typical bucks have had some kind of short coming on the score sheet. The Soda creek buck had the extra kicker off a G-2. The peace buck from last year had one G2 that was a lot shorter than the other. Max's buck had some pretty weak G2s as well, although he had good symmetry. Let's hope this winter eases off a bit and next year we may see another contender!!

Super trophy! Someone mentioned about a 211 net mainframe! Huge!

Was that 214 gross including the dropper? Maybe thats where the original 220+ gross came from. How long is the dropper?

Net 200........had only 3" deductions between the main frame. If it wasn't for that big drop tine and the inch long kicker on his left side, he would have netted 211

So is that drop tine 10" long? Wouldn't that make it 225 total gross score?

grossed 214 with the drop. Minus the 10 inches for the drop tine, and another 4 inches for other deductions and the final left was 200

errr.. I take it you mean the drop tine was about 5"? Cause I think you take the abnormal point lengths off the mainframe gross/net not the total gross. Otherwise it would only net around 190.

I think he means it grossed 214 as a typical forget the drop tine (for a minite). It grosses 214 and then you minus the side to side deductions which is 4 inches. This gives you a net-typical frame of 210. Now the drop tine comes into play, you have to minus its length from the net-typical frame so 210-10= 200

Ahh.. so maybe it does "gross" 225, I'm just learning but it seems the most commonly used gross. Er, but when they scored it they couldn't figure where the original 220 came from? They'll be happy to know they just forgot to add the cheaters to the mainframe gross. Wow that's alot of bone!

225 -gross
214 -gross mainframe
211-net mainframe(3"of difference)
10"+1" in cheaters
200 net

Heya Dana,
Yes , I have taken an interest in this buck, mainly to help me learn to judge racks better. I figured If I got a better idea on the numbers, I could use the buck as basis for future reference. I realize I underjudged it quite a bit when I first looked at it and took some flack for it. That's ok. This buck could go in the top 200 ever killed when it's official! But I can't seem to get a consensus on the numbers other than a "gross" and net. Can you help me out and fill in the numbers?

Total gross----
Gross mainframe----
Deductions on mainframe----
Net mainframe----
Abnormal points----
Final net----

The numbers have already been posted. First off there is no such thing as a total gross. Abnormal points were 10+1 inches from what I read here. There were 4 inches in side to side deductions. If it nets 200 even the gross main frame is 215. 215 gross minus the side to sides= 211 minus the 11 inches in cheaters equals 200.

I would not worry so much about trying to judge a 215 class deer as most of us will never see a live 190 class. Learn what it takes to make a 170 class. Once you have that mastered just start doing the math. A 180 is just a inch on every point or some mass. Just remember the width measurement is only measured once while mass and point lengths are measured numerous times.

That's a good point. Learn to recognize the 170-175 antler hump over the 160s and you're laughing. 180 and 190 bucks usually look pretty similar. The handful of 200's I've seen are definitely in a class of their own.
