North Island Spring time Fishing?

Hi Guys/Gals,

I'm looking into an spring trip to the north island (Port Hardy) in may or june 2013, how is the fishing typically this time of year? I just came back from down there and as usual fishing is decent this time of year(though not hot) but i'm not sure about earlier in the season, any info would be appreciated.

Bottom fish still around in good #'s? any cohos? any springs around? Real ugly swells early?

Good bottom fishing in May-June. Little early for Coho's. Hit and miss for the springs in May but June can be good. I've had good spring fishing in the inlets in April-May. The weather is going to be what it's going to be. Might have to sit a day or two on the beach but you'll get out. Not many people around so if you do hit it right you'll have a great time and if you miss it it will be a good excuse for another fishing trip later.

thanks pescado good info, i might shoot for later in june and try to catch the start of the coho's too
