We have a couple of days to kill (in Whitehorse at the moment) and were thinking of driving down to the BC border to look for caribou. Any day hikable (or overnight pack in) places worth trying once you get back in to BC south of Teslin?

Howdy, you probably all ready know the road goes in and out of B.C. around swift river - never saw many caribou close to the highway but south of Swift River (the lodge area) and before Rancheria there is an airstrip on the north side of the highway and to the south there is some decent mountains.
I can't remember for sure but it is very close to the B.C. border - about a 2 hour trek and in these hills saw caribou sign and some sheep but nothing shootable for the sheep.
You can do some glassing from the highway and then move in- the nearest point to where the mountains start and then hope the Rancheria river is not too high - was pretty easy crossing the river the couple times I was in there. A few good size Grizz back in there also.
Not to many locals would go in there - to far to walk. LOL
There is an outfitter on Jennings lake a little further south which may move some game towards the highway. Good luck. later

Thanks OG! Think we'll head out in the AM and give it a go. Just came off 12 days of hiking sheep hills so a 2 hour stroll isn't too bad. :)
