My boys and my Dad and I are going on a Moose hunt in 5-13. My boys have never hunted moose and have asked me what the best shot placement is on a bull moose. I decided to turn the question over to the forum. Thanks in advance everyone!

Stick one right behind the shoulder, in the lower 1/3 of the chest cavity

Land a shot somehwere near that area and you're eating moose tenderloin for supper.

one in the heart and lungs will kill him forsure but if you need to drop him on the spot put one about 10" down from the tip of his hump.

That pretty much sums it up. Use a good bullet, and wait til the leg you see is forward, not back.

Why would they need a plan B?

Dude is referring to the natives trying to ban moose hunting in that area right now.

High side of the road.

Ha,Ha,Ha, more truer words were ever spoken! I normally go engine room but took one right through the ear canal and I sure liked the response! Gotta be close though to pull that one IMO. K

Chest shots when the range is past 75 yards or so. I have used neck and forehead shots at closer range

i was just up in nazko, saw 10 moose the one evening driving on 30km of logging road and 20km of hwy. Seems to be lots up there still. Good luck. Oh and when you hit it with the first shot be prepared for a second, ive been with friends that have dropped their bull on the first shot, then they got all happy and high fives all round, next thing you know the moose is back up and walking into the bush down hill. A little tracking and an extra 400m up hill hike through crappy slash and alder bush prevented us from making that mistake again. Make sure it is down for good before the celebrations start. Good luck

K Agree 100% ......if you are close enough, high in the neck, or the ear.....you'll bring home more meat with these shots. You can't go wrong with a lung shot though.......

now that is pretty funny maybe and O agree 100% have a rock solid back up idea not liking the chances for a 5-13 moose hunt, but if by chance you have a nice moose in your sites aim right in behind the front elbow and you cant go wrong!!:)

Unless it's broadside, aim so that the bullet passes between the two front legs.

I shoot a moose in the heart area. Then the huge animal will bleed out inside. You don't want the moose to keep blood in the meat, drain it if you can when the moose is downed. A heart shot causes the moose to bleed heavily inside the chest cavity. Moose are big and heavy, and once down on the ground is a job to do meat processing the right way.
Bleeding with a heart shot will rid the meat of unwanted heavy blood which gives a strong taste.
Think meat quality before pulling the trigger. Aim and place the shot in the vitals.
Jel ( Big Time ) Blood drainer .. Spill the blood on the ground ..

Also do not go chasing it once you believe you made a good shot. Many of times I have seen them go inside the tree line and lay down. The farther you chase him, the farther you have to pack, in general. Made that mistake once. Not fun.
