Kamloops area conservation officers says they willinvestigate a report that an ATV rider may have chased down a bear cubat a Neskonlith campsite and hacked it to death with a machete over thelongweekend. But Investigator Kelly Dahl wonders if such a thingoccured, angering people enough to call the media -- why wasn't itreported to conservation?
A man calling around to the media yesterday admitted to CFJChe was not present, and had only heard the story. We elected to dosome checking before reporting it. However - the story was reportedelsewhere.
Meantime Environment Minister Terry Lake says since then hisministry is being inundated with calls -- and called the informationthe story is based on "questionable". Nevertheless, Lake says if itcan be confirmed, obviously officials would want to see the individualinvolved brought to justice.
Conservation's Kelly Dahl while there's no evidence to suggest the story is true, there is an obligation to investigate .
