You do need to have a hunting license to hunt small game, whether with an air/pellet rifle or a sling shot etc.. Taking the CORE is optional, but you still have to pass the exams for the CORE to obtain the hunter number and get a license.

To hunt any game animals you need your C.O.R.E., but you had better check the regs on hunting with a pellet gun. As far as I understand it you can "remove" schedule C animals as long as it is done in a humane manner or schedule B animals if they are causing damage to your property, but for game animals you need a hunting licence which equals the core.

If you love to hunt then get your hunting licence like the rest of us. End of subject.

based on that question I have to assume you are inexperienced. Nothing wrong with that, and if that is the case I would say definitely take a C.O.R.E.

The Conservation Outdoor Recreation Education (CORE) program is designed for individuals wishing to obtain their first B.C. resident hunting licence. It is offered through a partnership agreement with the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and the British Columbia Wildlife Federation (BCWF).

The program is useful for anyone interested in outdoor recreation, wildlife and firearms safety. The successful completion of the program is required for B.C. residents at age 14 or over who wish to obtain a B.C. resident hunter number card, and a first B.C. resident hunting licence.

The BCWF is responsible for CORE program administration, the keeping of graduate records and the public availability of the CORE examinations through a provincial network of certified CORE examiners.

You'll probably enjoy it and may even meet someone else that's starting out and looking for a partner. There is alot of value in taking the course from someone with a wealth of experience, I remember the guy I took mine from (now deceased) was a really neat guy that had tonnes of neat stories. I can't remember what it cost to take the course, but I remember feeling like it was time/money well spent, way better value than most things out there......

Good luck!

HUNTING LICENCE FOR YOUTH
The $7.00 junior licence currently available
for youth aged 10 - 13 will be expanded
soon to include youth aged 14 - 17 and will
be renamed a “youth licence”. This change
will provide youth with the opportunity to
try hunting without the requirement to take
CORE. An acknowledgement of responsibility
signed by a parent or guardian is still required
for all youth under 18 years of age. The youth
licence is issued on behalf of the youth, but
held by the parent or guardian. As always,
any youth who wants to take CORE and get
their own regular hunting licence and bag limit
entitlement can still do so. All youth under
18 years of age must be accompanied by an
experienced supervising hunter.

Seems like some of you guys are not up to date. Page 15 This is a new hunter and is 12 years old. He needs a mentor to show him a few things.

I pm'd him earlier in the day. I'd be more than happy to take a youngster out and show him the ropes. Waiting for a response back. Also curious whether his parents hunt.
