I like Ourea's recent posts of nice animals and fish. I'll play along with this decent Thompson steelhead from the archives..

Gorgeous fish coach.
A river caught fish is always a hoot.....lots of factors come into play.
Shame that fishery nose dived abruptly.
There were some tremendous steelies that ran those waters back in the day!.

Ha ha! It was two hats. And, yes, damn ugly!

Here's a classic of Oldngrey, before he was.. well.. old and grey.. This was a 23 1/2 pound hatchery fish caught at the confluence of the Thompson and the Fraser - 1994. Oldngrey has this one on his wall over top of his pool table.

The most amazing part of the story, is he broke one off the cast before that looked even bigger!

Yup - there were some great days in there. I hear it's coming back after some really lean years. Hopefully we won't lose it altogether.

You got part of it right, Gunner. It's Mike and Len's brother, Bruce. And you're right, it's a good hike back out of there - especially when Mike fills your pack full of rocks!

Thanks, Tikka270wsm. That fish was a brute. I'd sure like to have put a scale on mine. I've always figured it was over 20. So hard to tell from a picture - but that fish had shoulders!

My best weighed fish from the Thompson was 25 3/4lbs.That was way back in the day.I've had bigger fish on but for some reason I always hooked the tanks in places that I could not follow them, mostly down in the canyon.I have a friend,a fellow Kingfisher that has a 31lber over his mantle, that was hooked above the Big Rock at Lytton where he had all the room in the world to play it.Those were the days. Blacktailstalker is livin the dream if ur a river man.
He may complain about the limited big game opportunities on the island but he more than makes up for the shortfall with the steelhead and salmon opportunities.

I hammered the steel hard for years. I go maybe once or twice a year at best for winters now.
I enjoy chasing cats too much to dedicate much time to it, but will likely pursue it relentlessly once too old to make it to a tree, its something you never forget, a skill you never lose. Hopefully my hands last long enough to revisit it thoroughly.
My memory sticks are buried away for at least a month... I have a few slabs from the chuck left on photobucket to post, another day.
Actually heading out with the old man tomorrow, he boated a 33 after multiple texts asking what he was doing wrong while another friend limited out beside him... needless to say he was ecstatic  Breaking 30lbs on the inside (georgia) isn't a regular occurrence.
