I saw that on the news at noon,I thought a fish that big would put up more of a fight, either way it was one hell of a fish.

When Dad was a young kid he lived in Abbotsford near the Vedder Canal.

They would go down to the Fraser River for sturgeon.

Back then they would gaff a whole chicken, then use steel cable to tie it to a big tree on shore.

Throw the chicken out in the river over night.

The next day they would come back with a farm tractor, hook up the cable and pull in the sturgeon.

No pictures of him but a great fish story.

In the 1893 Chicago World's Fair was exhibited a white sturgeon caught at Astoria on the the Columbia river that was purported to weigh 2,000 pounds, though in Russia, there have been beluga sturgeon caught much larger, with the greatest weighing in at 4,568 pds having been taken from the Caspian Sea. The maximum length a sturgeon grows is around 18 feet, or 5.5 meters.
reply: there was a strugeon caught but not landed in eaither the Mississippi or stcroix in the 90's that was over 20 ft long!
"Russian sturgeon in the Caspian Sea region. The largest recorded sturgeon in the world was caught there at the mouth of the Volga River in 1736. It measured 28 feet long and weighed 4,570 pounds. A beluga sturgeon female was once caught bearing 900 pounds of roe." By Deborah hufford Lake Magazine MONSTERS OF THE DEEP From the October/November 2006 Issue
