I was out and about the other day and what did I find? Moose shit.
Now, though being new to hunting, I knew there were moose in the area.
Finally coming to the point - I also found round crap the size of
a quarter :-0 Would that also be moose crap or could there be Elk around
these parts?
Thank you for any intel

There a couple pockets of small herds in the area, so i've been told, but I've never seen them. Definitely not hunt-able

I know there are Elk out here in the Falkland/Westwold area which is only 45 mins from Kamloops. It is a small herd up to about 25 critters. It is possible that they roam as far as Kamloops although I doubt it as I think they generally travel between Salmon Arm, Enderby and here.
Keep it a secret though. Wouldn't want some asshat shooting the herd bull again! ;)

Thanks for the info guys. So there is some moron killing off the herd bull before the heard grows to a reasonable number? Back to the crappy question, are there moose droppings that are round and the size of a nickel to a quarter?

To answer your question, yes. Smaller ones could be a calf.

Moose droppings are about the same shape and size as the chocolate eggs we hide for our kids at Easter, without the foil wrapper

Seen a bull elk along the highway near Rayleigh once a year and a half ago. And have heard of other people seeing them up red lake way. Its kinda like seeing a sasquatch, don't bother telling anyone cause they will tell you your an idiot.

I have heard stories of elk apparently lost or on a long wonder around red lake as well, also I have heard of the falkland heard getting as far as mclure, don't quote me on it being the faulkland heard though, but I have seen evidence of elk near mclure, but never seen one myself.

There's supposed to be a heard in the north Adams as well that might travel. Also, a small heard south of Merritt and north of Princeton where some animals might wonder. I've heard some golfers have seen elk on the golf course in Logan Lake.

I have no intentions whatsoever to harm them if I would encounter one here around Kamloops. I think they are an magnificent animal and I would love to see them close to home.

I saw a few at North end of Adam lake, their size looked smaller than the Kook Elk.
There are several small pockets of elk scattered around the Kamloops area, and they ain't all small. ;)

Those are such great pictures, Dana. Did you mention in an earlier thread a number of animals in that herd had been killed by wolves - or is my memory going?

My buddy has a small elk shed that he found at the gun range in Logan lake. He found it years ago.

Yes, between one big tom lion and a pack of wolves that were stealing the tom's kills and killing their own, 6 bulls were killed a couple winters ago. The bull in those pics was wolf killed last fall. If it wasn't for them wolves, I would have had that tom treed. I was very lucky I had the hound still on lead when we jumped the wolves off the lion's kill. If I had of turned out, there is no doubt my hound would have been ripped to pieces by the wolves.

On a more postive note, I saw a bull elk early this morning, in an area I have never ever seen a hint of elk before. They definately are moving into new areas in Region 3.
Here's a live pic of the cougar killed bull from the year before.

Yeah, they transplanted a small herd there. He shot it saying he thought it was a deer. I remember the fine being something like $10k.
Too bad he did, if he didn't the Herd might have taken off.

I have seen them and heard them bugling.
They would do okay if left alone.
Sadly they have been beat on the last few year's.
