Have a pair of meindl hiking boots that have been awesome for me for hiking and mnt hunting. These boots are going on there 3rd season, with about 400 Kms on them. Today after training for sheep hunting, I noticed considerable wear on the sole of these boots. Is this normal ? Most my hiking have been on trails or mountain tops, I stay away from pavement. Love these boots so Iam thinking about putting new soles on them for next season. Has anyone replaced sole on there boots, and if so would you recommend doing so?

I've never replaced a set of soles, but if you're going to, I would recommend having a professional do it. Boots are too important to fail.

1 pr of my Meindls is on the 3rd set of soles. I use these boots exclusively for training. Don't wait too long to replace the soles as they may not be able to use the same type of sole (like I did).
When they replaced the soles the first time they also stitched a new strip of leather in the heel section which caused them to no longer be waterproof...which is why I've delegated them to training.

I believe they do a lot of repair work for AJ as well.

I ran the Super Cracks for years, and the bastids were bullet proof, though a little stiff for some applications. When they finally wore out, I bought a pair of Islands(they don't make the Makalu in size 13), and the POS's leaked after 3 months and rotted out in 6. I've ran a lot of different boots since, and am gonna give the Islands another try here shortly, as the bad taste is nearly gone from my first pair.........:-P
